NEWS: The ‘Skittles Ban’ Could Impact Your Next Disney Trip

If you’re on the hunt for a sweet treat, you can find one around nearly every corner at Disney World and Disneyland.

From rich desserts like cake and fudge to easy-to-eat sweets like cookies and candy, there’s a high chance you’ll be able to kick your sweet tooth. Disney has partnerships with certain candies and sweets brands, so you’ll often find certain candies present throughout multiple desserts — Skittles, M&Ms, and Snickers to name a few. However, we’re probably about to see a decrease in the number of desserts and treats with Skittles after a recent ban in California.

California became the first state in the nation to ban the manufacture, sale, and distribution of brominated vegetable oil, potassium bromate, propylparaben, and Red Dye 3. California Governor Gavin Newsom signed the “Skittles ban” on Saturday, October 7th.

Skittles candies contain these chemicals, as well as many cereals, sodas, and candies across the country. According to USAToday, the four chemicals are found in as many as 12,000 food products in the United States.

While the ban isn’t directly for Skittles candies, it bans a lot of the chemicals commonly used in the manufacturing process of those and other candies. With Disneyland being in California, as well as company headquarters, it’s probably safe to assume that we’ll be seeing less Skittles (and similar items that contain the four chemicals) and treats that feature the candies in the Disney parks.
