Disney has been changing a lot lately, especially on the business side of things.

At the company, there have been restructuring initiatives, a huge wave of job cuts, and several policy changes. Some more changes were recently announced for ESPN with the introduction of a branded sportsbook and now we’ve got another update on the sports giant owned by Disney.
According to The Information, Amazon is in talks with Disney about working on a streaming version of ESPN and possibly taking a minority stake in ESPN.

Disney and ESPN are reportedly still determining a price that they deem appropriate for the new service. ESPN is considering a price tag between $20 and $35 per month for the new streaming option which would make it the most expensive in the country.

In July, Disney CEO Bob Iger shut down rumors that they were selling ESPN. He said that Disney is currently looking for strategic partners that can help with content or distribution, as they want to stay in that business long-term. Iger also noted that there’s a lot of potential for what can be done with ESPN in terms of streaming and other forms of distribution.

At Disney’s Q3 earnings call in early August, CEO Bob Iger commented on ESPN and its venture into sports betting. Iger shared that one of the main appeals behind sports betting was the ability to grow engagement with young customers, and PENN made an “aggressive offer” that was better than the other offers by far.

We’ll continue to keep you updated on the new streaming service, so stay tuned to AllEars.
