Are you ready to head to Disney World?

Disney World always has something new going on. From the newest updates to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure to even more Genie+ changes, and new announcements for the 2024 runDisney Spring Surprise Weekend. However, some things in Disney World don’t change often and they required me to face my fears!
You might be surprised to find out that Disney World has some scary aspects to it. Sure for kiddos it might make sense that they get a little creeped out by Haunted Mansion in Magic Kingdom but as an adult, there are still things I get scared of at the most magical place on earth!

To start us off, I can’t even detail how scared of heights I am. It doesn’t matter how many times I ride the two attractions we’re about to talk about, my anxiety skyrockets when I know I have to hop on. The first of these rides is the Tower of Terror.

This ride has forced me to face my fears in a few ways! As a kid, I wouldn’t even hop in line with my family sometimes. The creepy decor and storyline do wonders for this attraction, and I truly believe it’s one of the best-themed rides in all of Disney World. The eerie feeling of stepping into the building was a fear it took me a while to overcome (especially the boiler room!) .

However, once I faced that fear, then came the actual ride itself. As someone who is plagued by a fear of heights, this ride is a doozy. This ride has different drop sequences, so you never quite know exactly what to expect no matter how many times you ride it. Plus once the doors open so you see outside? I’m done for.

Being so high up over the park and then being subsequently pulled down faster than gravity would take you is jarring! Luckily I’ve faced my fear many times now so I can find the fun in this one, but it’s still nerve-wracking. Another ride that gets me when it comes to heights is the Astro Orbiter!

The Astro Orbiter is worse for those with a fear of heights than even the Tower of Terror in my opinion. This Dumbo-esq ride allows guests to fly high above Tomorrowland, but the catch is it sits on top of another ride! This ride not only is the highest ride in Magic Kingdom, but it also goes significantly faster when you’re descending than other spinning rides.

The ride vehicles also tilt a bit, and they have a loose safety strap. While I know for a fact this ride is safe, my natural anxieties take over. Thanks to this job and Disney World, I have had to face my fear of heights quite a few times — but I still am not quite over this fear just yet. Next up on my list of fears to face is the ride Dinosaur over in Animal Kingdom.

Now I have to be honest, I adore this ride. I laugh like a maniac and know a disturbing amount of the dialogue. However, it took me several years to get to this point. I don’t think most people would be surprised to see this ride on my list. It’s a dark ride that takes you back into prehistoric times with lots of dinos all around you.

The near-total darkness and several jumpscares here and there have definitely frightened some kids in Animal Kingdom over the years. Disney guests tend to either love or hate this ride, and frankly, I get it. Luckily, Disney made me face my fears on this one and I can finally say I’m actually excited when it’s time to jump on a time rover.

Finally, when it comes to facing fears, I used to be terrified of all rollercoasters! Thanks to Disney World, I’ve had to face this fear or be left out of the group. The ride that helped me? Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in Hollywood Studios!

This rollercoaster staring Aerosmith goes upside down three times and has a launch that goes from 0 to 60mph in under 3 seconds! I was so scared of this ride for years, I didn’t ride it until I was 19 years old. (I know, slightly embarrassing, but please don’t judge.) When I finally got in that super-stretch limo, I loved it!

This ride can still be a little intense at times and if I’m not feeling 100% up to it, you might catch me skipping this one occasionally despite how much I like it. Thankfully though, Disney helped me overcome this fear and now I like a lot of roller coasters at other theme parks, as well.

While I never thought Disney World would ever help me overcome my fears, I can happily say it did! From my fear of heights (which we’re still working on) to my fear of jumpscares and even my fear of rollercoasters, this is only scratching the surface of what I am afraid of but luckily Mickey Mouse himself has decided it’s time for me to move away from fear. (Good thing I’m not scared of mice, right?) Make sure to keep following AllEars for all of your Disney World tips and tricks so you know how to handle your fears on your next trip to see the mouse.
