It has already started breaking records. The newest trailer generated more than 108 million views in the first 24 hours, making it “one of the most watched trailers for any title in Disney’s live-action films. Halle Bailey, who portrays Ariel in the new film recently did an interview talking about how this film will be different than the original.

There are going to be some differences in the film due to it being a live-action film instead of an animated version. According to Variety, Halle Bailey was required to be in the water for up to 13 hours straight while filming. In response to asking how she did it, she said, “And I feel like the message from [Ariel] was to know that you’ve always had it in you.”

The film is directed by Rob Marshall who directed Chicago and Into the Woods. Marshall used practical water tanks and visual effects to create extensive underwater scenes.

Bailey also mentioned that the live-action film will be different than the original and become more contemporary. “I’m really excited for my version of the film because we’ve definitely changed that perspective of just her wanting to leave the ocean for a boy,” Bailey said.

As women we are amazing, we are independent, we are modern, we are everything and above,” she added. “And I’m glad that Disney is updating some of those themes.”

Halle Bailey was recently at Walt Disney World this week for the Dreamer’s Academy. This is where 100 high school students get picked to visit Disney World. This event is all about educational mentorship. During the event, the students participate in career-focused workshops, learn about essential skills (like effective communication and leadership), and so much more.
