On the night of Sunday, November 20th, The Walt Disney Company announced that Bob Chapek was stepping down as CEO and Bob Iger would retake the position immediately.
Early on the morning of Monday, November 21st, we saw Disney stock prices rise significantly and we’ve learned more about why this change happened when it did. Since the news broke, the internet has been blowing up with reactions to the surprising news — let’s take a look at what some people are saying.
Many Disney fans across the world are posting messages on Twitter with thoughts on the change including celebrities and people who have worked for Disney.
Josh Gad, who voiced Olaf in Frozen and played Lefou in the live action Beauty and the Beast film, also commented on Iger’s return saying “I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy.” Josh Gad also recently became a Disney legend at the D23 Expo this year.

Former Disney CEO Michael Eisner (who passed the position of CEO onto Iger in 2005) posted a welcome message on Twitter.

Matt Martin is a Senior Creative Executive at Lucasfilm and he tweeted “There’s something oddly comforting about seeing “A Message from Bob Iger” in my inbox again.”

While many posts are welcoming Iger or showing excitement for his return, other messages are showing opinions on Bob Chapek stepping down. Matt Braly is an animator at Disney that works on shows like Amphibia and Gravity Falls, and he posted a message on Twitter after the news broke.

Former Imagineer Tom K. Morris also took to Twitter to post after the hearing the news. He said, “That guy [Chapek] never even took 30 secs to stop in and introduce himself let alone learn my history or what I had accomplished, something all the other park leaders and CEO’s made it a point to do.”

He continued his thoughts in the comments saying “Eisner and Iger (& even Ovitz) made it a point to know who everyone was. They were always very engaged in what we did.”

Adam Aron, CEO of AMC Theaters, commented on Disney as a movie studio and said, “Let me shout this from the mountain top. I have the absolute highest respect for Bob Iger.”

The change was effective immediately and The Walt Disney Company leadership page has been updated with Bob Iger as Chief Executive Officer.
