Minnie Mouse is a style icon in her own right, and her signature looks often involve plenty of polka dots and bows.

Recently, Disney announced a new look for Minnie, made especially for Disneyland Paris’s 30th Anniversary celebrations. Since the announcement, the internet has been obsessed with this new outfit. So what exactly is going on with Minnie’s latest look?
Disney showed a sneak peek at Minnie Mouse’s first-ever polka dot pantsuit, which was designed by British fashion designer Stella McCartney.

The outfit is a blue pantsuit with navy stripes and polka dots, and it’s paired with navy shoes and (of course) Minnie’s signature bow. Minnie will don the pantsuit on March 6th of this year in Disneyland Paris as part of the anniversary celebrations there.

Disney said she’ll be rocking “the new take on her signature polka dots for a limited time.”

So What’s the Big Deal?
As soon as Disney announced the new outfit for Minnie Mouse, the internet became obsessed. Many people have strong opinions, both for and against the new pantsuit.

Some people prefer Minnie’s classic red and white polka dot dress, while others are excited to see the newest look come to life. The topic has also become politicized in some conversations, with people saying that Disney is making a statement with Minnie’s outfit.

And with International Women’s Rights Day so close to the outfit’s debut, it’s possible that Disney is embracing a more progressive look for Minnie. According to CNN Style, Stella McCartney (the designer of the pantsuit) “hopes the new look will make Minnie ‘a symbol of progress and empowerment for a new generation.” McCartney will also debut a Minnie Mouse t-shirt for International Women’s Rights Day on March 8th, shortly after Minnie shows off her new outfit.

Other news sites that don’t typically report on Minnie Mouse’s outfit choices have weighed in as well, including Forbes, the LA Times, Fox News, and more.

Minnie’s seemingly simple outfit has become an introduction to a much broader topic about progressivism and the role of entertainment companies in leading social change.

The news about Minnie’s latest look comes hot on the heels (pardon our pun) of the announcement that the Green M&M character will trade in her go-go boots for sneakers.

The two changes happening so close together probably brought more attention to them both. Many people have taken to social media to share their thoughts on the animated characters’ outfit choices.

This Isn’t the First Time Minnie Has Worn Pants
Despite what some people might be saying about this outfit, it isn’t the first time Minnie has worn pants.

The leading lady has been rocking a pantsuit on the Disney Cruise Line for almost three years now, probably because it’s usually just more sensible to wear trousers on a boat.

In addition, Minnie has been seen in Disney World wearing athletic outfits, like a soccer or baseball jersey, that include shorts.

Minnie also wears pants in several different cartoons. So although the new pantsuit has sparked a big conversation recently, it’s not necessarily a brand-new concept for Minnie to be in pants.

What do you think about Minnie’s new pantsuit? Let us know in the comments.
“Obsessed” would imply that people can’t get enough of this new look. From what I’ve read on other Disney boards, “freaking out” would be a better description. It seems that everyone thinks this look is here to stay and they hate it. Just like they did when someone created that sparkly purple Moo Moo that no one actually even saw her in. Back then they thought that was going to be Minnie’s new everyday look. Same thing now. You can’t get through to them that it’s just a special look.
“obsessed” is extreme preoccupation so it can also mean “freaked out”
I don’t care what she wears, pants, dress, skirt, shorts, but to me they look like jammies.
Minnie is rocking that pantsuit and she looks beautiful. Honestly, let her try on different looks and let start embracing a wide variety of style rather than limiting men, women and mice. It’s the 21st century.
I agree, she looks cute in her pantsuit! I just hope it has pockets. And if she does get another pantsuit in the future, maybe it could be red with her iconic polka dots
