There are a lot of new series and movies coming to Disney+ in 2022!

From the upcoming Marvel series Moon Knight to the release of the Pixar film Turning Red, we have SO much to look forward to. And, today Disney revealed an exciting new update for fans of Disney’s Moana!

Back in 2020, Disney announced that a new Moana series would be coming to Disney+ in 2023 and, although we still don’t have a lot of details about the new series, we now know that the series has found its director!

Disney Animation has announced that David G. Derrick Jr., who worked on the Moana film, will be directing the Disney+ series.

Derrick first joined Disney Animation to work on the Moana movie, which Disney says “deepened his connection with his family’s Samoan roots.”

He also shared that “Working on Moana was a gift, personally and professionally. The film Moana caught and shared the spirit of Polynesia with the world. I am honored to continue her story and to celebrate the rich and beautiful cultures of the Pacific Islands.”
