Disneyland is Changing How Guests Ride Rise of the Resistance

So far, Disneyland has not yet rolled out the Genie+ program that launched in Disney World recently.

Today we learned that Disneyland will begin testing a standby line for a very popular ride soon, possibly as they begin preparing to launch Genie+. This ride will have a hybrid standby line/virtual queue, and here’s how it will work.

According to the OC Register, Disneyland will begin testing a standby line for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance on Monday, November 22nd. They will begin the day with the standby line and activate the virtual queue on select days and times. That means some days might be standby all day, while other days might have both options.

Rise of the Resistance is located in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland Park, and as of right now it uses a virtual queue that allows guests to secure boarding groups. Boarding group access begins at 7AM and then again at 12PM, but this will be paused as the standby line is being tested.

As reported by OC Register, when activated on select days and times, the virtual queue will require guests to already be inside Disneyland to get boarding passes. This is different from their previous policy that allowed access from anywhere.

Guests can check the Disneyland app throughout the day to see whether the virtual queue will be activated, and remember that you must be inside Disneyland to grab a boarding pass.

Update: We checked the virtual queue section of the Disneyland app in the morning of November 22nd. As of that time, the app noted that Disneyland plans to open the virtual queue for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance “as needed each day.” Be sure to check the app to see whether a virtual queue is being utilized at any point during your visit.
