We’ve been following the progress being made on the upcoming Brightline train, which is currently under construction in some areas of Florida. Now, we’re starting to learn more about exactly how many stops will be included in the train’s 325-mile route.

According to Orlando Business Journal, the Brightline train could wind up having up to a dozen stations between Miami, Orlando, and Tampa. Two of the dozen proposed stations would be located in Disney Springs as well as Orlando International Airport, allowing guests to travel directly to Disney World once their flight arrives.

The other proposed stops would include the existing stations at MiamiCentral, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, as well as in-line stations in Boca Raton, Aventura, an additional PortMiami station, Treasure Coast, Space Coast, and Lakeland.

The looming question surrounding Brightline, however, is the projected timeline for constructing and opening the route. Right now, the Orlando-to-West Palm Beach expansion is expected to wrap up in late 2022; however, this past summer it was announced that  the Central Florida Expressway Authority decided to indefinitely delay a decision on the route that the Brightline Train can take between the Orlando Airport and Tampa.

Orlando Business Journal also shared that “Brightline previously presented a proposed schedule with construction on the initial phase of the rail from Orlando International Airport to Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort starting by first-quarter 2024, pending approvals.” The remainder of the route to Tampa may then begin work as early as second-quarter 2025.

  1. I love the idea of a rail system between MCO and WDW. That said, unless WDW develops a station to handle incoming and outgoing guest, burdened with baggage, that will quickly transfer them to and from their resort, there will be little advantage to having the train. Disney was smart enough to realize resort guest wouldn’t like the idea of resort buses dropping them off at T&T, only to have to utilize another mass transit mode to get into MK, they better realize guests don’t want to have to deal with two or more mass transit modes to get from MCO to their resort. I realize this proposed Brightline train isn’t a Disney “thing”, but how they handle guest at the entrance/exit point of Disney World is a Disney “thing”.
