This year has proven to be a great year for Marvel fans.

There’s been so much great content for fans this year, including a TON of new Marvel shows like WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, What If?, and the upcoming Hawkeye.
And we’ve already had one movie release this year, Black Widow, with a second coming up next month, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. But a recent comment by Disney CEO Bob Chapek about that film has received a response from Shang-Chi’s star.

During Disney’s Q3 Earnings Call, Chapek called Shang-Chi an “experiment” for the company while discussing the future of the company’s theatrical releases in reference to the film’s 45-day theatrical window without a release on Disney+ through Premier Access. Disney’s Free Guy is also only being released in theaters with a 45-day theatrical window.

Shang-Chi actor Simi Liu took to Twitter to respond to the comment. “We are not an experiment,” he began. “We are the underdog; the underestimated. We are the ceiling-breakers. We are the celebration of culture and joy that will persevere after an embattled year. We are the surprise.”
The actor also asked Marvel fans to join him on September 3rd, when the film opens in theaters, to make history. With the film’s release only a few weeks away, only time will tell if Disney will have another Marvel hit on its hands or if theatergoers are still staying away due to the ongoing pandemic.

Sorry…the only story here is that the offended star lacks basic reading comprehension. Don’t give platform’s to those who create controversy out of nothing.
I seriously doubt he is trying to create controversy. He used the term ‘underdog’ so I imagine they (he and Disney) want to use the underdog narrative to get more people out to the theaters. I’m sure the gentleman can read. One of the best movie experiences my wife and I ever had was attending Black Panther opening night. Such electricity in the theater… a wonderful experience. Looking forward to this one too!
