Epic Universe is here!

While the new park features a bevy of new and exciting attractions spread across four new, highly themed portals: Super Nintendo World, Dark Universe (themed to the Universal Monsters), Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Ministry of Magic, and How to Train Your Dragon: Isle of Berk, all of which surround the central Celestial Park area. However, our focus today is more culinary in nature.
As one would expect, Epic Universe has a litany of eateries spread across the park, and our focus today is Meteor Astropub located in Celestial Park.
Background
Universal describes the location as a “vibrant gastropub” where “a celestial twist awaits beer enthusiasts, cocktail lovers and burger connoisseurs.” We recently paid a visit to the pub during an Epic Universe.

Atmosphere
Atmospherically, we really liked the inside of the restaurant.

There’s a lot of seating, the subtle space-travel decoration and theming aesthetic worked in an understated way, and it wasn’t too loud inside.

Food & Drink
First up, we tried the Astro Pub Burger, which costs $16.99. It’s made with Black Angus beef, American cheese, cherry pepper aioli, and garlic pickles all on a potato roll.

We were told this is a fan-favorite burger, and we can see why! It’s a great, classic burger packed with pickles and cheese. The cherry pepper aioli on top added a different flavor, but it’s not spicy. Even the patty was delicious. It was super moist and juicy and similar to a smashed style burger. When you need a solid burger on your theme park day, head to Metero Astropub.

We’ve ordered this twice, once with fries and once with a salad. The fries are classic steak fries with a crispy exterior and a fluffy inside.

The salad was chopped finely, which we appreciated since it made it so easy to eat! After a long theme park day, we don’t want to be working for our meal. The dressing is a vinaigrette that brings in some acidity, and it was a great side salad and a lighter choice from many heavy theme park options.

Once we saw it on the menu, we knew we had to order the Fish and Chips for $20. This was a Gochujang beer-battered filet of cod with kimchee remoulade sauce and wasabi fries.

The fish is in a thick, beautiful batter with whitefish. We would have preferred more fish for the cost, but it was a real winner. Our favorite part? The sauce!

We loved it so much that we were dipping our burger into it. It was zingy with a fermented vibe, without being spicy, and we can tell it’s handmade. The fries are thick, just like the ones that came with the burger, and while they were called wasabi, we didn’t get a punch of heat.

We also tried the Chicken and Waffles, which also goes for $16.99.

We were really looking forward to this dish… and we were sadly let down. The chicken, which appeared to be entirely white meat, was pretty dry, while the waffle felt like it had been sitting for a while and went soft.

The meal did come with the same steak fries as the burger, and we did enjoy the glaze sauce that was over the chicken. However, neither of those could salvage the dish overall.
Finally, we tried the $7 First Light Mocktail.

So this drink was supposed to be a mixture of blue raspberry, Sprite, and Pop Rocks, along with a cloud foam at the time. However, in practice, we found the drink’s flavor profile to be too dominated by the Sprite, to the point that it tasted more like a soda than a mocktail.

Overall, we wouldn’t give the Meteor gastropub a recommendation by any means, and would say check out some of Epic Universe’s other culinary offerings. That said, if you’re looking for a quick and basic burger, it would probably be fine to fit your needs. Stay tuned to AllEars for more on Epic Universe’s offerings!
