Who would have thought meeting characters at Epic Universe would be intimidating? We sure didn’t!

Epic Universe has finally opened its doors (er, portals) to Annual Passholders, Visa cardholders, and lucky hotel guests able to snatch tickets during the special preview days and so far we’ve had a blast! While there’s over a dozen new rides, shows, and great eats to take in for your day at the new park, there’s another important aspect here we didn’t think would throw us for a loop like it did.
Finally getting to step foot inside Epic Universe and explore all 5 of the new worlds feels like a long-time dream realized and we have to admit we were a little shellshocked by it all during our first visits.

One of the most anticipated worlds, Super Nintendo World, isn’t necessarily “new” to Universal parks, but boy is there much more to be found here than at it’s west coast counterpart in Universal Studios Hollywood. You probably couldn’t have guessed just how massive this place is, until you’ve “warped” through the portal’s pipe and stepped out through Princess Peach’s castle.

It’s a sight that will take a few minutes to take in for sure. But, it’s also a place that can seem a bit overwhelming at times. With more room and rides than at Universal Studios Hollywood, Super Nintendo World at Epic Universe feels even more ambitious than some of its other iterations before it. More to explore means more crowds are sure to follow and that can certainly lead to some overstimulating experiences even if you’ve tried your best to prepare for it.

One place we felt this the most was in the meet and greets with characters. Attempting to meet with nostalgic characters we’ve grown up with (and now introduce our kids to) proved to be more stressful than we anticipated. The whole process of jumping in line to meet with them felt more hectic than character meet & greets at Disney World. That’s not to say these meet and greets with Super Nintendo World characters aren’t organized, but where we felt this mostly lies in how popular their meet and greets are even during previews. Team Members assisting the character meet and greets needed to cut off the line very early (so as to give Mario and Luigi some time to step away in between greeting) and we saw several Team Members working together to make the line move as smoothly and quickly as possible. All of this led to the character meet and greets feeling more like we were meeting celebrities than just another character around Epic Universe.

We LOVED our time in Super Nintendo World — in fact, it’s one of the worlds we were looking forward to exploring the most! Here you’re also able to meet with Princess Peach…

…Toad and we’re keeping our fingers crossed that we’ll be able to meet with Donkey Kong real soon!

The main thing to remember about these character meet and greets is you’ll need to time your visits just right and be ready to jump in their lines before they’re open because they fill up quickly. Since the park is still in technical rehearsal, there’s no guarantee on who you’ll be able to meet with and when so keeping your park plans a bit flexible right now, will also help you in the long run.
