Earth Month may have bought lots of festivities to Disney World in April. But, did you know that there’s a whole day dedicated to turtles too?!

And, Disney World is giving guests a bit of trivia and the various kinds of turtles you can find in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, EPCOT, and the resorts as a mini way to celebrate!
Dr. Mark Penning, the Vice President of Disney’s Animals, Science & Environment, shared details about the tortoises and turtles across the Disney World property. Along with the Galapagos tortoises you can find at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and sea turtles at The Seas with Nemo & Friends in EPCOT, there’s also the critically endangered species of radiated tortoise being taken care of at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge.
Radiated tortoises have lost their habitats around the world. So, the animal caretakers in Disney give them a safe place to leave with plenty of vegetation to snack on and a “reptile salad” made of kale, spinach, and other healthy veggies!

Dr. Mark even stated that everyone can do their part to protect tortoises and turtles, along with other animals around the world, by following the reduce, reuse, and recycle technique. You can also make sure to dispose of trash properly, make sure to observe wildlife from a safe distance, and take precautions not to disturb them or their habitats.
