Across the nation, vaccine eligibility has begun to widen in terms of age cohorts. Last week, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings shared that because there was an over-abundant supply of vaccines at the end of each day, that they decided to lower the required vaccination age to anyone 40 and above.

Looking ahead, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is telling young individuals to be patient, and that vaccines would soon become available to them as well.
WTSP 10 reported that in a recent news conference, DeSantis was asked about certain locations throughout the state opening up slots to individuals below the current age requirement. DeSantis responded by saying, “If you’re in your 20s or 30s understand that this is gonna happen very soon, absent them really reeling back the vaccines on us, in terms of the supply.”

DeSantis continued to say that he wants the state to continue to focus on vaccinating those above the age of 70, although he did mention that widespread vaccine eligibility could take place sooner rather than later. He was quoted at the press conference saying that he thinks Florida will have all adults eligible “way before” President Biden’s target deadline of May 1st. The May 1st deadline would set the stage to allow for small gatherings by the Fourth of July.
