Discover Cruella’s Origin Story in the Plot Summary for Disney's Upcoming Live-Action Film

Cruella de Vil, if she doesn’t scare you, no evil thing will!

Cruella is arguably one of the most dastardly Disney Villains. Come on, who doesn’t love puppies? Beyond that, what happened to her that makes her want to capture and wear them?? Well, Disney is giving us an answer! After some delay, the live-action origin story of Cruella is set to release in theatres on May 28th, 2021. And, we just got a sneak peek at the story behind the world-famous villain.

Before Cruella, she was called Estella and she had a dream to become a fashion designer. At age 12, however, she became a penniless orphan and four years later, she runs the streets committing petty crimes with her pals Horace and Jasper. Later, an “up-and-coming rockstar” commissions Estella to design him a signature piece. This, it seems, is where things take a turn for the worst. As Disney states, “what is the cost of keeping up with the fast crowd– and is it a price Estella is willing to pay?” The plot summary is referenced in the description of the original novel that is based on the film.

The film is set in 1970s London and stars Emma Stone as Cruella. Paul Walter Hauser and Joel Fry play Horace and Jasper, respectively.
