This week, we shared the unfortunate news that Disney World would be cancelling Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and EPCOT’s Candlelight Processional for 2020.Â

It now looks like holiday season cancellations have started to reach the west coast as well. While Disneyland has yet to announce any reopening plans, they have had to make difficult decisions when it comes to their seasonal events.
Orange County Register has reported that Disneyland has cancelled their Candlelight Processional for 2020.

The report points to the fact that, “Disneyland was unable to commit to the monthslong planning process for the Candlelight Processional without a clear understanding of when theme parks can reopen from the State of California, according to Disney officials.”

Disneyland is still awaiting the key theme park industry guidelines needed in order to safely reopen. California Governor Gavin Newsom says that discussions on reopening the parks are “forthcoming”, but that parts of the negotiations are still “open-ended.”

Even if Disneyland were to reopen before December, the Candlelight Processional is an annual event that draws huge crowds to Main Street U.S.A. and creates an environment that Disney would more than likely NOT be able to safely operate under their new health and safety guidelines.

The Disneyland Candlelight Processional is a tradition that was started by Walt Disney himself, originating in 1958. Unlike EPCOT’s Candlelight Processional which performs multiple times per night for the entire holiday season, Disneyland’s version only takes place over one weekend in December, performed in front of the Main Street train station.
