My Favorite Walt Disney World Water Park

This week we get to list our favorite Walt Disney World water park.

However, before we get to that task I do want to comment on last week’s blog. I really love doing these “Favorite” blogs because it’s so great to see such diversity of opinion, as well as reading the reasons for everyone’s choices. The responses for last week’s blog were no different. Restaurants like ‘Ohana, Boma, California Grill and Yachtsman Steakhouse were mentioned frequently in the Deluxe category. Boatwrights, Trail’s End and Maya Grill were popular Moderate resort places to eat, while Earl of Sandwich and Wolfgang Puck were the Downtown Disney favorites. Olivia’s, Flying Fish and Sanaa made most lists of favorite DVC restaurants.

Since I haven’t been to any of the water parks in such a long time, I didn’t have any pictures of the water parks to use in this blog. So, I turned to my good friend and fellow blogger, Jack Spence, for assistance. Sure enough he had some great photos for me to use. Thanks Jack, I really appreciate your help with this!

Anyway, on to my list.

Favorite Water Park

1 Typhoon Lagoon
2 Blizzard Beach

OK, now that I have told you my favorites, what are yours? I’d love to know. Also, you can add whatever comments you want to help us appreciate your choices.

Speaking of comments, here are some of my thoughts. As I said earlier, I haven’t been to any of the water parks in years. It’s not that I don’t like water parks or enjoy water in general. The main reason is that I am retired now, living in Florida year round, I have my own pool and live in a community with some really beautiful pools. So, if I want to get wet all I have to do is walk out to the lanai and into my pool. Anyway, I have spent time at both Disney water parks before we moved down here. I really enjoyed Typhoon Lagoon because of the wave pool and Castaway Creek, the lazy river. Although the theming at both parks is excellent, I do like Blizzard Beach’s theming better.

You could win an AllEars® baseball cap. I will take all the names of those who post a comment (see below) with your list, within the next couple weeks and I will put them in a hat and randomly draw the name of the lucky winner. The only rules are that you must reside in the US, be 18 years old or older and you must provide your email address so I can contact you should you win.

All comments must be posted no later than Sunday, August 1, 2010 in order to be eligible to win the baseball cap. The winner of the AllEars baseball cap will be announced shortly thereafter.

To make things a bit easier for you can just copy and paste the following into the Post A Comment section below and add your information:

In the coming weeks I will blog on more “favorite” things to do in Walt Disney World. Also, let me know if you have any suggestions as to other things you would like to see “top lists” of. I’m open to any and all suggestions. So far readers have suggested I blog on Non-Theme Park Disney Thing To Do and Favorite Magical Moment. Great ideas! What do you think? Based on the number of comments, I think you all agree that these are fun to do.

And the winner is: the winner of the AllEars® baseball cap for commenting on my Favorite Walt Disney Resort blog is: Lindsey Tullier from Louisiana. Congratulations to the Lindsey and “thank you” to everyone who took the time to share their Favorite Walt Disney Resort with me and all the AllEars® readers!

Did you know AllEars® has a huge area called Rate and Review where you can share your dining reviews with fellow readers? Check it out!

BB has far more thrilling rides to experience. And a nod to sadly defunct River Country is in order as well.

  2. Favorite Water Park

    1 Blizzard Beach
    2 Typhoon Lagoon

Your comments: I enjoy the tube slides at Blizzard Beach the most but I must say that I’m not sure much can beat the experience of surfing lessons at Typhoon Lagoon.

  3. 1. Blizzard Beach
    2. Typhoon Lagoon

Although TL seems to be more popular here, we definitely enjoyed BB more. TL was much more tame, in our opinion, than BB and we felt bored at TL. Next year we’ll be heading back to BB again!

Your comments:To be fair, we tried BB first, when my kids were small (2,5,8). After we went to TL, though, they never wanted to go anywhere else–and now they are 12, 15 and 18! The most memorable parts of BB were the family raft ride (admittedly better than TL) and of course Summit Plummet. The thing is, we are all addicted to the wave pool at TL. We will spend HOURS in there. We get chairs right by the edge of the water. We may head over to CrushNGusher, storm slides or shark reef first to beat the later lines, but we always come back to the wave pool. I don’t think my husband has done anything except the wave pool and the lazy river in our last 2 or 3 visits!
We live in Ohio, and people rave about the water parks at Cedar Point and King’s Island, but we don’t even bother because we know they don’t compare to TL!

  5. Suggestion’s for fav lists:
    1. Fav tours
    2. Fav activities outside the park (sports and recreation incl hayride, horse riding, boat excursions)
    3. Fav fireworks show/fav viewing area
    4. fav stores
    5. fav place for an alcoholic drink

DizneyMike replies: Kevin, great suggestions! Thanks for sending them along…Mike

  6. 1) Blizzard Beach
    2) Typhoon Lagoon

They are both great fun! However, BB just has more and better slides, plus more activities for kids. THey have a section for little ones, plus a section (Ski Patrol Training) for those who are too big for the little kids play area, but not ready for Summit Plummet. The only thing that TL has over Blizzard Beach is the surf pool. We could spend all day in there!

    1. Typhoon Lagoon
    2. Blizzard Beach

It is too hard, for me, to find a shady spot to read at BB. I’m not really a water person, but love the lazy river at TL and the shade for reading.

  8. Typhoon Lagoon hands down. So much fun. The river used to be the best thing about the park until they let as many tubes as possible–then it just got congested. They need to switch back and only allow so many.

I just gotta have that tropical feel of TL!

  10. Favorite Water Park

    1 Typhoon Lagoon
    2 Blizzard Beach

Your comments: My wife and I are only young in spirit, so Typhoon Lagoon appeals to us more as we are not so much into the “thrill rides”, although we do enjoy most of the slides and Crush ‘N Gusher at TL. Our favorites, though have to be Shark Reef, the wave pool, and the Lazy River. I am also one who misses River Country, remembering it from my very first visit to Disney-back then there was ONE theme park and River Country was the only water park-and outside of Disney, water parks were unheard of…and that water in Bay Lake where the slides emptied was COLD!!!!

  11. Favorite Water Park

    1 Typhoon Lagoon
    2 Blizzard Beach

Your comments: I agree that the theming is better at Blizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon is much better at keeping you cool during the summer. Just one time around on the Lazy River is all it takes. The Shark Reef is pretty cool too.

Almost a tie, but themeing at BB is like no other place in the world!

  13. 1. Typhoon Lagoon
    2. Blizzard Beach

Shark Reef, Lazy River, Wave Pool and now Crush n Gusher make this tops. Although when we go in December, TL will be closed. I too remember River Country. My grandfather somehow scratched his back badly there once, but we still had a lot of fun.

Only been to Typhoon Lagoon-chose it cause we thought it was more kid friendly. Our kids were 1 and 3 when we went in 2008. They loved it. Remember River Country? I remember jumping off the rocks when I was a kid. Is it still there or did it become one of the newer water parks??

  16. Favorite Water Park

For me the vote goes to Blizzard beach, the introduction of the polar patios really made it as my mum uses a wheelchair and she can happily sit here and read or relax while we try out the rides. The theming is just great and even in 95 degree + weather it feels cooler than some other parks

I really liked River country but sadly it is no longer there, it was such a cool place to just hang out and relax, so I guess my only other option was to add Typhoon lagoon, but when the wave pool gets crowded it is not so much fun. Probably better for bigger kids than the young ones!

    2. Blizzard Beach

Have to stick with the group on this one. Theming at BB is just slightly better but the wave pool at TL is over the top! Love it!

  18. Typhoon Lagoon all the way!!! My husband and I were there on our honeymoon in 2003 and again in 2007. He’s 32 years old and still talks about that wave pool like a little kid! Plus no other water park in North America can top that lazy river. And of course the shark reef!

Like others have said, I just love the lazy river and the wave pool. But we are in the same position as you are … have retired, moved to Orlando area and have our own pool so haven’t been in awhile. This is making me think we need to make a visit in the near future.

  22. Favorite Water Park

Blizzard Beach is awesome, but it’s all about the lazy river at Typhoon Lagoon.

  23. Favorite Water Park

    1 Typhoon Lagoon
    2 Blizzard Beach

Your comments: Love the laid back feeling, tropical music, lazy river, of Typhoon Lagoon. Loved Catch a Kiddie Creek when the kids were little, with it’s own little float slide. Now that kids are grown, it is great for adults only trips. Blizzard Beach was great when the kids were tweens & teens. Lots of that age areas for them to explore, as well as the beach dancing to more lively music. Good times, great memories.

  24. 1. Typhoon Lagoon
    2. Blizzard Beach

I love the theming at BB. But TL has the most awesome wave pool, Crush n Gusher, and Shark Reef. No other water park I have heard of has an experience like shark reef.
