We are DVC members, but renting the points was in the $1700 range. Boy is this place worth it! First you start with the theming, which is everything it's cracked up to be. The lobby is spectacular. Now it is true that being in Boulder Ridge you're a little disconnected from the main building, but it's a short walk over.
We ate breakfast at Whispering Canyon, that was a blast. We ate lunch at both Roaring Fork (good food, very pleasant dining area) and Geyser Point. Geyser Point is right on the water and it's spectacular, I wish I'd gone back for drinks at night but we were there in August and the heat was oppressive.
Having two pool options is great, the smaller pool was almost deserted and the showers are sparkling new.
The thing I underestimated about the Wilderness Lodge is proximity to the parks. I knew we would have the boat option to Magic Kingdom, and that was great, but they go to the Contemporary as well. And the bus rides to Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood studios were 15 minutes or less! That is a huge deal in the morning when you have excited kids or at night when everyone is tired. Pile on top of that that this is a deluxe hotel and there are fewer people at the bus stop (1st bus is yours and you get a seat) and the premium is easily justified.
One night we stayed outside for the movie and you could see the fireworks from MK and in true Disney style, they piped in the music. It was really special.
We've stayed at All Star movies, Port Orleans French Quarter, Animal Kingdom, Saratoga Springs and Boardwalk and the only one that comes close is AK. But the transport times for WL put it a cut above AK which has the long bus rides. This is a fantastic hotel. I can't wait to go again.
Pros:
Location, theming, poolsCons:

We went in August for dinner with my family (wife and two young daughters.) The drinks are on the adventurous side including the beer. Not a lot of Coors Light sold here. The food is tapas, so meant for sharing and more like appetizer portions. So if you're starving, this probably isn't the best place for you.
However, they have some really intriguing places to sit. There is a diving bell, the bar is neat, there is a lot of outdoor seating including on a boat. The server forgot my dinner, but we weren't in a rush. The food was good.
The atmosphere is what makes this place, inside and out. If you do a good search you'll find the golden idol from the first movie!
Pros:
Great atmosphere, esp for fans of the moviesCons:

We stayed in a kids suite, which is in building 1, the taller building, facing the highway. The room was well insulated against the noise of the highway, with two sets of doors and glass between the room and outside. The beds were all comfortable, and since we have three kids it was nice that each of the kids had their own sleeping area. Daughters slept on the bunk beds and son slept on the pull out. Parking was a bit problematic, but we were always able to find a space somewhere. Easy walking distance to the parks. Splash park was cute. It is themed towards younger kids.
Pros:
Separate area for kids, cute water parkCons:

Busy place with really good pizza. We had one person with a gluten issue and other than the fact that they have gluten free crust, I do not think they did a great job keeping the whole thing gluten friendly. Very hard to do anyway I would think, but was a little disappointed. With that said, the pizza was really delicious.

So fun. We were able to meet Minnie, Chip, Dale, Tigger, Pooh, Eeyore, Captain Hook, Max, Rafiki, and Fairy Godmother all in under 45 minutes prior to regular park opening. The food was good and plentiful. Our only complaint was the lack of help the characters had in getting around. Several times entire families would get up from their table and mob the characters as they were trying to make their way around the room. There didn't seem to be anyone assigned to helping the characters move through this, which slowed the character progression down.
Pros:
Lots of characters! Nice selection of foodCons:

I LOVED this place! We started in the bar area and it was awesome. Great drinks and gluten free churros! Really an oasis in the very hot weather. I would come back just to have a drink and a snack. The restaurant is really neat and the food was just delicious. We don't spend a lot of time normally in Animal Kingdom, but would definitely make a special trip to come back here.

This was our second time here and we waited to finally get a second reservation...it was tough. I have to say that this visit was not as good as the first. The fried chicken was a little greasy and not that much meat. It was really awesome the first time, so hoping it was just an off day. I like the place and the staff is always really great. Coming back in January and hoping it is better!

Love this little place. If you have food allergies, they do have options here. We have a gluten issue and they have fries and burgers and chicken fingers that are really good. Always have to stop here for a drink or two while we are here, but the food is decent too and won't break the bank account.

Dinner was great! Lots and lots of good food. I would say that they should change out the shrimp with something else. It was not that great and very hard to eat. My son loves shrimp and the server gave him lots, which was nice, but he ate one...I did as well. Other than that, we really enjoyed the dinner and would definitely come back.

We stayed in a 2 BR villa Aug 13-17. We were traveling with friends who had never been to WDW. I am a Vacation Club member. We have stayed here many times. Despite the new decor, which I find too generic and not enough Disney, our entire trip was excellent. Room was clean. Trash and Towel service was done efficiently. Bell services were the quickest ever. All of my room requests were honored (early check in time if room available and on the top floor). We could see Epcot fireworks from the room. I did note that the bus stop for WDW transportation is too small and was usually crowded making it difficult to see the monitors and even to walk through to get to the bus when it arrived. But given the great location of the Boardwalk, we only experienced this going to MK and AK. Bell staff were very helpful with the Lyft app so that we could use the Minnie Van service.
