Review of Liberty Tree Tavern Dinner

Liberty Tree has always been one of our favorites - a must do every trip. For me personally, it has been my #1 restaurant in all of Disney for several years. And so it pains me a little to give it anything less than a 10 or to write anything even slightly negative. While our experience was still mostly positive we all felt it wasn't even close to some of the other meals we enjoyed on this trip. We spent 12 days and 11 nights in WDW and had many incredible meals. Our expectations for Liberty Tree are always very high.

One pleasant surprise was that we were seated so quickly. Normally we check in about 15 minutes early and wait 20-30 minutes to be seated. This visit we were seated almost immediately. Our server, Ed, was exceptionally friendly and really got our meal off to a great start. Everything is served family style and that can lead to a very cramped table.

The salad came quickly and was as always, very good. It was followed by turkey, pork, roast beef, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy and mac & cheese. The pork and turkey were good but none of us liked the roast beef at all. In addition, I believe they used to serve just plain ol' green beans - which were good! Now it's green bean casserole which was barely touched. I tried it, I wanted to like it, but it's just not for me I guess.

Maybe our expectations were just too high. Maybe comparing a family style restaurant to some of our other more enjoyable meals on our trip is a little unfair. Because the food was good - it just wasn't "great". And yes, I would still recommend Liberty Tree. I'm certain we will return because I won't let one not-so-great visit undue a dozen previous great visits. Like I said, it actually pains me to write anything even remotely negative about Liberty Tree. I certainly will cross my fingers that our next visit will be closer to the '10' that we've come to expect!

excellent service, food was good

Review of Via Napoli Ristorante e Pizzeria

We dined at Via Napoli 12/2/17. I was really looking forward here based on reviews from friends. Our waiter was great and was very attentive, especially to my radish allergy. However, we had to wait almost an hour for our pizza. When we finally received it, it was a lukewarm temperature. We were not a big fan of the pizza either. We normally like a more tangy pizza sauce, and this one was almost sweet. I'm willing to chalk it up as a "bad day" and try it again. But for all that was hyped to us as an amazing pizza, it didn't measure up.

Pros:

Great wait staff

Cons:

Not as good as the hype, took forever to get food, loud

This was my first experience with HDDMR after 11 previous WDW trips. It did not disappoint in any way! The food was excellent and the show was very entertaining. Since we were there in December, we caught the Christmas version. I still have Sixpence singing "I Ain't Gettin' Nuttin' For Christmas" stuck in my head!

Pros:

Everything!

Cons:

Nothing!

In December, we had our first experience here. I was really wanting the Tonga Toast, but told the waitress I can't have it because too much cinnamon irritates my stomach. The waitress told me they could make it without the cinnamon sugar coating. That really impressed me! It was excellent, especially when I got to the bananas in the middle. This place is definitely worth the hype!

Pros:

Allergy/irritant friendly

This has always been one of my favorite restaurants and definitely my favorite buffet on Disney property (and I'm not a buffet person). Our trip in December did not disappoint! They have a great selection and there is not a bad tasting dish in the line.

Pros:

The best buffet on property!

Cons:

None

We've always loved the breakfast here, but it always disappointed me that there was not a large variety of African inspired dishes. That is not the case for lunch! The selection at lunch has an array of delicious flavors. I was also pleased to see they have the Jungle Juice available at lunch as well.

Pros:

Great array of African flavors, great character interaction

Review of Port Orleans Riverside Resort (Moderate Resort)

We stayed 1/31-2/10.1/31-2/9 in a royal guest room poolview then 2/9-2/10 in a poolview in alligator bayou. The rooms on both sides are very well themed and were very clean. Each room had a towel Mickey head on the bed for arrival. Mousekeeping was great when we asked for extra pillows ,very prompt in coming to our rooom. We enjoy quiet pools so we didn't use the main pool. We had to bring towels to and from our room. There used to be blue containers to leave wet towels but not anymore. The laundry is convenient at the pool area. You need your magic band to enter and it no longer takers coins for laundry so bring your debit/credit card. The grounds were very manicured on both sides of the resort although everyday you hear blowers clearing paths and leaves ECT. It was hard to just sit in quiet but by no means a deterrent to staying. I am sound sensitive so I just am very aware of it. My family didn't notice until I pointed it out. The food court is great. We ate breakfast there every morning and used snack credits for Danish and chocolate croissants. We did get the beverage mugs with our package and are great in the morning. However, tho trip the only colors available were pink and purple which wasn't great for m son and husband. We didn't eat other meals but have in the past and it's been good for a food court. The gift shop is well stocked with various items from clothes to kitchen. We rented surrey bikes for a half hour. It was$22 and change for up to to 4. We got around twice in 20minutes. The staff said twice in a Alf hour is average so we stopped. A third time round wasn't necessary. We also fished in the morning. It was about $6.50 per person per half hour. They give you cane poles and some worms. It is catch and release but we caught nothing. Last trip my husband did catch fish but my son has never been lucky. The deepest depth us 7 1/2 feet. We used the boat to Disney springs. It's about a half hour total with a stop at French quarter. The buses were ok. We use it for Mk and AK but drive to Hs and Epcot since they are so close it's quicker than a bus. The buses were always packed with people standing and in the mornings the south depot was packed. The service is good.

Pros:

amenities

Cons:

couldn't accommodate longer stay

Review of 'Ohana Dinner

The meal we had in December 2016 was the foodie highlight of our trip! I could just eat the plate they bring out to start with. The honey coriander chicken wings, noodles and pot stickers are addictive. The skewered meats they brought were perfection. As full as we were after those, we could not stop eating the bread pudding. The touches with the Hawaiian singer and hula lessons made for a very memorable meal. Good view of Wishes as well.

Pros:

Delicious!! Great staff

Review of Homecomin': Florida Kitchen and Shine Bar

It was fun to sit out on the screened porch next to the water, and we enjoyed the theming here. My favorite items were the Church Lady Deviled Eggs (creamiest filling ever) for an appetizer and the Hummingbird Cake, which features pineapple and banana flavors in the cake and the best cream cheese frosting ever! However, the main dish portions are huge! Two adults could easily split one entree here. Although my short ribs were very tender, they were a little salty (or else the gravy was), and there also was some off-flavor to the broccoli rabe that came with it ("seasonal vegetable" is what is listed on the menu). It was barely cooked and tasted like it was doused with lighter fluid. It was too oily, too. The mashed sweet potatoes were good. The cake slice is humungous, so that also is easily shared. We even asked them to leave off the ice cream, and we didn't even miss it! I would prefer to pay less money and get smaller portions, because I hate to waste food and want to try lots of things. The wines by the glass definitely are over-priced for the quality.
