Review of Cabanas - Casual Dining

First off, the there was nothing that I ate at Cabanas that I didn't like. All of the food was great during breakfast and lunch. We sat outside and enjoyed the breeze. So nice.
The only thing I don't understand is that the bottom of the 'U" shape of the actual buffet, there is different food and we ended up stumbling upon it. It would have been nice if workers informed folks of what was available. For example... you pass all of the eggs (scrambled, benedict, etc.) in the beginning of the buffet, then when you pass the fruit and Danish, which is typically the end, there was a section with Fried Eggs, Omelets and Minute Steaks!? Weird set-up!
The only thing to ruin the serenity of enjoying your breakfast out on the deck of the ship overlooking the ocean was the screaming of misbehaved kids and their parents doing nothing to curtail their behavior.
perhaps, they should make a small buffet up on the adults only deck? Hmmm...?
I know this is a DISNEY ship, but it is NOT Disneyworld. 😉

OK... this was our 3rd Disney Cruise and our 2nd time aboard the DREAM. The ship is majestic and beautiful and never fails to impress me. I did note, however, the carpeting starting to show some signs of wear. Especially near the elevators. No big deal.
Our stateroom #6066 was very clean and comfortable. No issues at all. Everything ran very smoothly.
The shows were all excellent even though we have seen them before. The day at sea, they had "Magic Dave" perform in the theater and his show was fantastic! very funny and the tricks were super! The Buccaneer Blast Fireworks were great, however, I wish they would bring Pirate Mickey back or maybe incorporate him in with Jack Sparrow. After the fireworks, there is a (unannounced) buffet in Cabanas that is there till around 11:30PM.
On the topic of meals, the food was good, but some of the meats were a bit dry. The server (Dan from Indonesia) was the BEST and very accommodating, so that made up for any issue with the meats. During our dinner at Animator's Palate, the "Crush" feature was not working on the screen closest to our table.
The Cove Café was a nice spot to get away from the crowds and enjoy a really good cup of coffee. The coffee is NOT included in the cruise and they charge it to your room, however, the baked goods (excellent) are free!
The one thing that I need to express is that Disney really needs to start enforcing the "adult ONLY" rule in certain areas of the ship. parents should also be told to accompany their kids to the buffet lines. We encountered so many kids up at the line who were either too short to see and reach items on the buffet or who could not understand English so the workers had a hard time helping them. Many adults tried to be sneaky when it came to their kids in the adult areas. To me, it does not make sense to have a section of Deck 9 adults only, but Deck 10, right above is family and then Deck 11 is adults only again! All 3 should be for adults. It just makes it easier to enforce and ensure that those adults who are traveling with no kids and those whose kids are in the various programs to enjoy themselves. In conversation, one of the ships crew even stated that this was way more kids than they usually get on the ship.
BTW... I am not a kid hater. Actually the opposite. 😉

The Martini tasting/seminar was held in meridian which is located between Palo and Remy on the Disney Dream.
There were only 6 adults taking the class. The bar was set-up for 5 different martinis:
French martini, Pomegranate Passion, Manhattan, Chocolate martini and Crème Brulee.
They were all great and for the $20 pp, you definitely got your money's worth of drinks.
each person had the opportunity of actually making the drinks for everyone as the instructor guided you through the process.

The Cove Café was a nice break on the cruise. The coffee is ALOT better than what you get on the rest of the ship. You do have to pay for drinks, however the baked goods are free. This location is on a "Adults Only" level and it was nice to not hear screaming and running around. The staff was friendly and informative. It was almost empty when we visited which was a AT SEA day of the cruise.
Pros:
Friendly and inviting. A nice break.Cons:
The staff should let you know the baked goods are free.Reviewed by Bobdes Review Date: 05/23/2016

We recently (May 2016) stayed in room 6066 on the Disney Dream for a 4 night cruise and loved it. The room was clean and comfortable. Everything was functioning. The verandah could have been a bit cleaner but being outside and in the elements I understand the challenges. Don't get me wrong, it was not disgusting. BTW...I worked in the hospitality industry and am VERY picky.

We ate here 12/29/15 to fulfill a longtime goal...the Kitchen Sink! Despite ADRs we waited about 15 min to be seated which is normally not a big deal but with a fussy toddler seemed longer!
The service was prompt and our Kitchen Sink (chocolate version) was awesome, easily consumed by 4 adults and 1 teenager. All good fun, just wish they would expand a bit since the popularity doesn't diminish and it is a bit small inside and when seated at the tables.

This is DD favorite restaurant on property and she has been able to try new and different things as she has become more of an adventurous eater.
Our last stay did not disappoint---food to satisfy a picky 15 year old, as well as a fussy 4 year old. Mac&cheese, pasta, nuggets (the staples) plus 6 adults with diverse palates. The carved meats plus salmon as well as varieties of soups, salads and desserts were delicious and plentiful as always.
Our favorite server, Bob, came around to say hi (he does this if we're not in our section) and everyone waddled out happy.
I took of 1 point for the waiting area which is small and difficult to navigate (especially after eating!) and the cost, which in keeping with everything else on property, is slightly inflated for the product provided.

My mother had always wanted to stay here so we splurged for 2 rooms CL for 1 night prior to our NYE cruise. Sadly, her room was initially ready, then not. We waited, had dinner, waited some more., had dessert. The CL hosts were not helpful at all, either not knowing what the delay was or not sharing. Finally my parents were in their room by 9 pm. This defeated the point of being at AKL with a Savannah room. Since we were only there for 17 hours, and 5 were spent waiting for a room, 8 for sleeping, this was a waste of money. After the fact we were refunded a fraction of our cost...but there was no magic.
The food offerings were...fine. I'd hoped there would be some more unique items-but if there were I cannot recall. Again, the lounge hosts were neither helpful nor interactive.
Sadly, I think the obvious cost containment protocol has arrived at AKL CL.

May 20, 2016: This is a good burger, but not wonderful. I had smoked Gouda and back on mine. Buns are toasted and the meat is a better quality than the normal park and resort burgers. They are cooked medium well. French fries are double fried which makes them taste stale. Beverages include some creative shakes and many alcohol options. One burger, a small order of a fries, a bourbon shake and a hard ginger ale was $45. This falls under table service but is decidedly quick service. You order at a counter and find a seat. When your pager goes off, you fetch your tray. Seating is inadequate for the volume of guests. I'm in no hurry to return or recommend this place but if you are on the dining plan it's a decent option.

This place has a very nice atmosphere, and the food was quite good. Server was passionate about the food, but then he disappeared for long stretches; too long. Overall, it was a bit too expensive for the quality of the food. I'm happy to pay for a really nice fine dining experience, but this one was just a bit off the mark.
