noisyReview of All Star Movies Resort (Value Resort)

This was our first trip to WDW! It was so much fun!! We were a group of 10 including an infant. We stayed at All Star Movies a whole week (Jan. 26th-Feb.2nd 2013).
We were in three rooms (side by side) in the Herbie Love Bug section. It was very peaceful and we had a beautiful view of the 'foresty' area. The rooms were clean and were the size of a Best Western room. Each room had a mini fridge which was useful for storing all the drinks we accumulated (we were on the quick-dining plan).
From the airport we took the Magical Express. The bus driver was really funny and everyone was cheering as we passed under the "Welcome to WDW" sign!
Most of the bus was headed to All Star Movies and even then we waited no longer than 5 minutes to get to check in. Efficiency is an art at Disney World! We've been to several theme parks in Texas and WDW has the shortest wait times for everything (from food lines to ride lines). We were very impressed!
At the front desk all the females were given flowers and the kids balloons! Every one is so friendly and happy. After unpacking we enjoyed walking around the resort. Our rooms seemed to be the farthest from the food court and it was about a 4min walk.
Everyone's favorite past time away from the parks was the pool. It is beautiful, it was never crowded and there is a nearby bar area for the adults. My favorite memory from the trip is all of us hanging out around the pool just talking. The weather was perfect! We visited the pool 4 times during out stay.
Bus transportation: we didn't rent a car and used Disney transportation for everything. The longest we waited was 8 mins and it wasn't at the resort it was at Downtown Disney. Our family travelled together except for in the afternoons when my Dad would leave the parks for a nap, he said it took less than 10 minutes to and from the parks to the rooms. He'd meet back with us at the parks at night. We never had a problem even though we had strollers and backpacks. I loved the busses because it meant that we didn't have to worry about maps and parking, etc.
The food court is large and we always found tables for all 10 of us to eat together. The food was great! We ate here every morning and several nights. Try the Orzo soup it is delicious!
I loved the gift shop, they even helped me locate a store that sold Disney comic books (Downtown Disney). My whole family got bitten by the pin trading bug and the resort would have pin trading times (around 5:30pm). Addictive! The arcade was very cool. The first game when you enter: it's a wall of lights and the objective is to hit the lights as they blink, the more you hit the higher the score. We got very competitive, it was so much fun!!
I recommend this resort to all Disney lovers. We are already planning our next trip back.

The character breakfast was fun. We had ours at Parrot Cay and the kids really liked seeing all the characters. The bad part was that the movement of the characters through the dining room was not well organized so we had to wait a long time to see all the characters (and our server finally had to flag down Pluto because he had somehow skipped over us). My 3 year old daughter dressed up as Minnie Mouse for the breakfast and as we were leaving, Minnie stepped beside her and held her hand all the way down the hall - my daughter was in complete shock and awe and talked about it for months afterwards.
Pros:
Made a magical memory for my daughterCons:

We loved the pirate theme at dinner - the kids got to sword fight with the head server. We wish we had done some of the cool pictures with backdrops that night. The deck party was chilly (repositional cruise LA to Vancouver in May) so the kids just wanted to cuddle up with us on deck after a few minutes of dancing.
Pros:
Great pirate themes at rotational diningCons:

It was a great way to start the cruise - lots of energy and music. Staff handed out sticks with blue or red tassles for the kids to wave and servers came around with drinks (virgin or alcoholic - at a cost - the "Bon Voyage" is really good!)
Pros:
So much fun - great energyCons:

My kids (ages 3,4, and 6) loved going to the kids clubs - they had a blast! My older 2 chicken out of the performance for the parents on stage with Mickey and Minnie at the end of the cruise, but my daughter was right into it. The only con was the bad phones on board - there were a couple times that they called us (my daughter had been potty trained for a few months but had an accident once and once my autistic son was getting a bit overstimulated and wanted to be picked up) and the phones never rang or indicated a message - we didn't get the messages until 1-2 hours later when we checked the stateroom messages.
Pros:
Kids didn't want to leave!Cons:

We had room 2000 and 2002 after reading reviews about the larger sizes and window seats in these rooms. The window seat and huge porthole window was great. Since it was at the end of the hallway, there was little noise from other rooms. There was quite a bit of motion in the room due to its location at the front of the ship and I was motion sick one day, but that's not too bad considering that 4 members of our family are very prone to motion sickness but I was the only one who got sick (and it was on a day that they closed all the pools due to 2 foot waves in the pools)
Pros:
Great window seatCons:

Used ME on 3/16 brochure from AAA gives you map with location at airport. Easy to find. Had very early flight and arrived at 8am, moved quickly through airport as last trip we waited forever to get on bus. This time we checked in and they directed us right onto a bus and left we only stopped at one other resort for 2 people then us. We then left on 3/23 the day before we received our packet with our departure time for ME. It was approx 3 hrs prior to our flight . We did stop at 3 other resorts first but the driver was very efficient and kept assuring me that we wouldn't be late. He was correct. Our flight actually was delayed 1 hr. I did ask what happens if you miss ME and the driver told me that they leave usually every half hr so you could catch the next bus but make sure you have your printout confirmation with you to get on the bus. I appreciated not having to take luggage with you all we had to do was go through security. Will use this service again.

We had heard good things about the Plaza and have been meaning to try it for some time, but never did. This year we had lunch there and loved it. We had to wait quite a while to be seated even though we had an ADR. We waited at an outside table, so we had a lovely view of the castle and the day was nice and sunny. After being seated on the enclosed porch area to eat, our server came immediately. She was great. I had the reuben sandwich with broccoli slaw (delicious) and Hubby had the club with fries. His was good too. For dessert Hubby had a hot fudge sundae and I had a brownie sundae. We were surprised that these were included on the dining plan. They were huge. My brownie was as hard as a rock. I had end pieces of the brownie so that's probably why. It was still good and way too much for me to finish. We will return here again if using the dining plan, but not if paying out of pocket. The prices are pretty expensive for sandwiches.

Hubby and I ate here for the first time on 3/4/13, the first night of our trip. We were seated almost immediately after our arrival. I had the chicken parm, and Hubby had the tuna steak. The food was good, nothing spectacular, but fine for our standards. Service was slow. It took a long time for our food to arrive. Another table next to us who arrived after us with more people got their food before we did. Our server did come by several times to see if we needed anything including drinks. When we were done it took a while for our check to come too. I would probably give this place another try. Just don't go if you're in a hurry or have to be some place else in a short period of time.
