CLOSURE Set to Hit Popular Harry Potter Ride at Universal Orlando Next Week

Heads up, witches and wizards — Universal Orlando just revealed a temporary closure that could change how you navigate the parks.

Hogwarts Express

The holidays at Universal Orlando are one of the best times to visit — twinkling lights, festive entertainment, and Christmas at the Wizarding World vibes everywhere you turn. But with all the excitement comes a few seasonal adjustments worth knowing about before you go. One update in particular may change how you navigate the parks during your trip, especially if you’re planning to hop between parks to take in all that the holidays at Universal have to offer.

If you’re heading to Universal Orlando soon, chances are you’ve already planned out a few of the rides you’re hoping to conquer while you’re there. However, there’s one important update you’ll want to keep on your radar. The Hogwarts Express will be temporarily closing on December 3rd. Currently, it should reopen on December 4th, but that is subject to change.

While short, the closure may impact how you navigate between Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure — especially if you’re a Harry Potter fan eager to soak in every bit of the Wizarding World magic or hoping to catch a quick ride between two of Universal’s closest parks.

Hogwarts Express

The Hogwarts Express train is more than just a mode of transportation, though; it’s one of Universal’s most immersive attractions! It’s fully themed from the moment you step onto the platform. Whether you’re boarding from King’s Cross Station in London to venture over to Hogsmeade or making the return journey back, the train tells two different stories, each filled with Wizarding World of Harry Potter nods, magical encounters, and clever effects that make you feel like you’re right inside the Harry Potter films. Because of these, any temporary closure tends to make waves — it’s a fan favorite for good reason!

Kings Cross Station

Although this closure is brief, it has another refurbishment scheduled for February 9th-23rd, 2026. Closures and refurbishments like this are completely normal and happen throughout the year across the parks to keep attractions fresh, reliable, and safe. Since the downtime is expected to be short in this case, if you’re visiting after December 4th through the rest of the month or during the holiday season, you’ll likely still have a chance to ride.

However, if your next visit happens to fall during the closure, don’t worry! Both Harry Potter-themed worlds will remain fully open and accessible. You’ll just need to travel between them the “Muggle way,” using the main park entrances. This means exiting one park and walking through CityWalk to enter the next. It’s definitely a way to get more steps in, but still completely doable, especially if you’re already hopping between other attractions.

In the meantime, this temporary pause can actually be a great opportunity to slow down and explore the areas around the train stations that you may normally breeze right through. Take a moment at King’s Cross Station to explore more of the London waterfront, snap a photo with the Knight Bus, or watch Kreacher peek from behind the curtains at 12 Grimmauld Place. If you happen to be over in Hogsmeade, grab a Butterbeer or browse the shops for holiday merchandise — the village feels especially festive this time of year.

Whether you’re planning a holiday visit or mapping out your 2026 vacation, it’s always a good idea to check Universal’s refurbishment updates before your trip so you can plan your day efficiently. The temporary closure of the Hogwarts Express isn’t ideal for park-to-park movement, but with all the holiday offerings, delicious seasonal treats, and magical decor across the parks, there’s still plenty to enjoy!
