Review of Grand Floridian Cafe Lunch/Dinner

We had dinner at the Grand Floridian Café on Monday, November 4, 2013. We did not have reservations, but arrived at 5pm when they opened. We were seated within five minutes of checking in with the hostess. Our server quickly came by and took our drink orders. We asked her what was good, and she said the $30 Char-crusted New York Strip Steak with Red Bliss Mashed Potatoes and Brandy-Green Peppercorn Sauce with Seasonal Vegetables.
My wife and I both got the steak – and if was really good, well worth the price. The sides were also excellent. Service was very good as our servicer never let our sodas get empty. The only bad thing I have to say is that two screaming babies made our meal much more stressful than it should have been, but that’s the price of eating at Disney. Would definitely return and recommend to anyone.

We stayed at Pop Century 11/1 – 11/5/2013. We stayed in a double room (two double beds) in the 80’s sections, building 7, on the second floor facing the pool area. Right near Roger Rabbit’s rear end!! We had a rental car for the entirety of this trip so I cannot speak to the bus situation. Our room was clean and the beds were very comfortable. We had a roll-a-way for our 14yo daughter that was brought to our room within ten minutes of our arrival.
On our first night, my wife found a shoe print on her flat sheet. We called to have the bed remade. Housekeeping came within five minutes and removed all the bed clothes down to the bare mattress, and replaced them all in less than ten minutes – including the bed spread. This all happened after 10PM. The housekeepers apologized several times for our inconvenience – even though it was not their fault.
The rest of our hotel related stay was great. Housekeeping helped us with our daughter when she got sick all over my bedspread and brought us extra towels to help with her illness. She was sick for two days. I can’t say enough nice things about housekeeping. I left them a big tip when we checked out!!
Due to my daughter’s illness, we had to reschedule our FastPass + rides for two days. The front desk concierge was very helpful in getting all of them re-scheduled.
Food court can become a real zoo, go early, or late.
We are DCV members, and the rooms were much smaller than we are used to. If we run out of points again, all-in-all, I would stay at Pop Century again, but only if I had a rental car!!

We ate at Mamma Melrose’s on Saturday, November 2, 2013. We had ADR’s for 1:30 and we were seated with in ten minutes of checking in with the hostess. Our server was from Birmingham, UK and had a 5 year service pin on his name tag.
Chef Bea from the Brox came to our table to discuss my tree nut allergy. While she was there, I asked if the Clams Oreganatta was back on the menu, she said it was not but that they had a spicy mussel dish as an appetizer that she thought was very good. When I told her I could not stand spicy food, she offered to make me a mussel dish from scratch. What she made was a fabulous dish with white wine and garlic broth with mussels that is one of the best dishes I’ve ever had in any restaurant. It was so good I used my straw to suck up the broth after I ate all the mussels.
Unfortunately, the rest of our meal was not so spectacular. My wife and I ordered the Charred Strip Steak with Mac & Cheese. The Mac & Cheese was very good, but had a few pieces of pasta in it that were burnt. The steaks were tough, much tougher than we’ve had before. My steak had so much fat and gristle that over half the steak was inedible!!
We’ve eaten at MM several times in the past and this is our favorite restaurant in all of WDW. We’ve had the Strip Steak several times in the past and it was excellent, but this time is was terrible!! Because of our past experiences with MM, we’ll be back, but it might be a while.

They did an awesome job with the remodel. Was very excited to dine there this past October. Our food was wonderful but did miss some of the old favorites.
Wine selection was outstanding and our server was able to recommend different things to try.
Already have our reservations for when we go back next time.

We were there in October and were part of the testing.
Hated the entire experience and felt like we were tied to our phones checking on things (not why I go on vacation - I go to get away from it all).
We were with a group of 20 people was almost impossible to get on the rides together unless we waited in stand-by line. Got to HS for early hours and couldn't get on Toy Story until 6:30 at night for regular FP which eliminated park hoping that day.
Don't like having to plan out rides 60 days in advance.
Feel that you should be scaned into the park to get a pass.

We didn't feel the wristbands were policed very well. The character lines were long and most times were closed. The stage in Tomorrowland needs to be higher so everyone, especially children can see without looking at the back of heads. The projection show on the castle was not different than the night before. It did NOT snow on Main St. And, the 2nd parade was delayed twice and then CANCELLED! Then our daughter cried the rest of the night and never got to see Santa. It was a very light rain, but stopped by 11 p.m., so they should've gone through with the parade. It didn't rain hard, it didn't pour, lightning or thunder. We, Disney customers, were out in the elements, the Disney cast members should've been too. Including the photo pass photographers with tripods. They could've held an umbrella or clipped an umbrella to their tripod, but they all went indoors. This party did not deliver on their promise. We are very disappointed. We could've added an extra day to our passes a lot cheaper and stayed in the park and watched the parade, the projection show on the castle and the fireworks, just like a lot of people did, without having to spend the extra money for the party.

We ordered photo pass and overall were pleased. We really wanted photo pass "plus" and wanted to order it before our trip, but because it was within 14 days of travel, we couldn't get the discount. This was unfair. We really wanted the extra attraction photos for the rides, Tusker House, 1900 Park Faire, Chef Mickey's, Hoop Dee Doo, etc. those pictures individually are $33.00. It also would've included some of the ride photos. They offer a separate attractions pass, but no one could help us with that. It seemed no one knew where to purchase it or how.

We did not stay on property, so we were not able to use this. Fast passes were for very late in the day or not at all. Stand by wait time was 80 minutes. Also, spoke to someone who used it and did not like it, because they were running from fast pass scheduled ride to the next. Go back to an even playing field.

We tested the bands during a split stay between AKL & Yacht this past Wine & Dine weekend (Nov 5-12 2013). Two adults and one baby (who did not need park admission but was still given a band and made for a cute tiny bracelet!). Linking our room reservation, park admission, dining reservations and Fastpasses was a breeze. Such ease to not have to carry ID and park media and room key & paper Fastpasses. We reserved Fastpasses 30 days in advance. We then built our day around those 3 must do's. No running around to get Fastpasses. We loved the experience and cannot imagine going back to the old system.

I stayed here for one night back in 2008. I always wanted to stay here again. So when I received the FD pin, I jumped on it and booked FQ.
I requested top floor, was given ground floor, and I was glad that they could accommodate, and ended up with top floor.
I think we were in building 2, behind the bus stops. It was quiet, and we didn't here too much traffic noise. We paid for garden view, but it wasn't much of a view, mostly of the parking lot.
Our room was clean, which is a big plus for us.
Even though we had a great stay, and I NEVER thought I would say this, but we had more fun at Pop Century the year before. Even though it was great, something was off.
