Tips for families attending SeaWorld’s Just For Kids festival
Posted onSeaWorld Orlando's Just For Kids festival returns again this year on four Saturdays -- Jan. 12, 19, 26 and Feb. 2. I recently spoke with Muffett Baker, the theme park's entertainment production manager, to get her thoughts on the what not to miss at Just For Kids. Here are her recommendations for making the most of the festival and my tips for families.

It’s “snowing” near Disney World in town of Celebration through Dec. 31
Posted onEach year, the town of Celebration, which is located in Walt Disney World's back yard, hosts "Now Snowing Nightly" from Thanksgiving through New Year's Eve. The snow -- um, soap bubbles -- falls daily at 6, 7, 8 and 9 p.m. on Market Street. We've been going to this event for years, but it was a little different this year. Despite the cold temperatures, it didn't seem as wintry because the "snow" was not allowed to accumulate on the brick street. That was disappointing because it certainly affected the make-believe wintertime look of the street.
The Night Before runDisney
Posted on'twas the night before runDisney, when all thro' Jambo House,
Not a character was stirring, not even The Mouse;
The compression socks where hung on the balcony with care,
In the realization that the wakeup call was ever so near (*1);
The children were nestled on the pull out sofa beds,
While visions of Dole Whips and Mickey Ears danc'd in their heads,
And Mama in her running skirt and I in my wicking cap,
Had just settled our brains for a very short nap (*2) --
When out in the night arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
And tripped over the souvenirs on which I spent all my cash.
Best Friends Pet Care caters to furry family members during the holidays
Posted onWhen families travel to Walt Disney World for the holidays, many wouldn't dream of leaving their pets home. And although most of the resorts on Disney property do not allow animals to stay with their humans, there is a special facility that not only welcomes furry friends, but caters to them, as well.
Best Friends Pet Care opened a luxury kennel at Walt Disney World in 2010. The national chain is known for its customized services and the individual attention that employees give each client. The Lake Buena Vista facility took those concepts a step farther, offering pets some over-the-top amenities, including a private dog park with a walking trail and a 1,300-square-foot "canines only" splash pad.
Santa’s Fireside Feast begins with Christmas season at SeaWorld Orlando
Posted onMy 10-year-old son and I attended the first night of the event this season, which was a new experience for us, with some friends. Typically, the price of the dinner show -- $29.99 for adults and $19.99 for children ages 2 to 9 -- includes reserved seating for A Sesame Street Christmas afterward. Guests are advised to pick up their seating passes at the Information and Reservations Counter at least 90 minutes before their meals.
Then, guests can gather outside Seafire Inn Restaurant. To the left of the main doors is a pathway along the waterfront that leads to the check-in podium and a backdrop for a complimentary family photo. Silly or serious smiles welcome!
