REVIEW: You Know How We Feel About Most Disney World Churros, But THESE Are The Exception

Some of the best food in Disney World is hiding in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Churros

That includes restaurants, too, including the character dining experience at Tusker House, and the more upscale dining available at Tiffins. However, we’re asking you not to sleep on Nomad Lounge, which we recently revisited to try some new food and drinks.

Background

Nomad Lounge is the lounge you’ll find next to Tiffins in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Here, you’ll find hand-crafted cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages inspired by African, Asian, and South American flavors, as well as beers and wines from those regions.

Nomad Lounge

But it’s not just drinks you can get here. The lounge also features some small bites. Here’s what you need to know about dining at this restaurant.

Atmosphere

One of the first things you might notice is the banners hanging in the center of the lounge, “each posing a different question about traveling the world and the thrill of discovery.”

Inside Nomad Lounge

The mood of this lounge is relaxed, and you’ll find many comfortable seating options. at the bar or on the covered patio.

Lots of comfy seating

The patio gives you a lovely view of the Discovery River. You’ll also be surrounded by greenery.

The view can’t be beat

But enough about that, what are we eating?!

Food & Drinks

Previously, you could get Tiffins Signature Bread Service here, but that’s been switched to Naan and Dip Trio for $17. It comes with warm onion naan paired with roasted garlic hummus, roasted eggplant, and roasted red pepper and walnut muhammara. The naan itself is so soft and tastes like it’s fresh out of the oven. It’s pillowy and makes the perfect dipping tool for the dips.

Naan and Dip Trio

The roasted garlic hummus is a great classic hummus, but we loved the additional fried chickpeas on top for a little extra texture and crunch. It is heavy on the garlic flavor, though.  The roasted eggplant spread is very smooth and has a lovely eggplant flavor, but you get a little extra with the pomegranate seeds on top. The roasted red pepper and walnut muhammara is the spiciest of the three dips, so be warned that it will leave a pleasant burn going down your throat.

Dips

Next up, we tried the Grilled Beef Kefta for $17. It’s a Middle Eastern-inspired beef skewer with harissa hummus, herb-honey yogurt, pickled red onions, and naan. This is a beautifully layered skewer with salty beef that pairs beautifully with the hummus and yogurt.

Grilled Beef Kefta

The naan ended up a little soggy, though, from being at the bottom of the dish. The presentation is great, but we would have preferred if the bread were served separately. But the flavors are sublime.

Lots of great flavors

We couldn’t resist the Churros that come with blueberry and vanilla cream sauces for $11. We’ve had some bad churros in Disney World, but the churros here always deliver. They’re fresh, soft, and filled with a lovely cinnamon sugar flavor.

The sauces are also wonderful. The blueberry sauce is fresh and light, and adds a deep berry flavor that complements the cinnamon sugar. The vanilla cream is almost like melted vanilla ice cream. It’s soft and velvety, and is also great for dipping the churros in.

To drink, we ordered up the Dalang’s Delight for $17.50, made with STARR African Rum, Batavia-Arrack van Oosten, Orange Liqueur, Mountain Berry Tea, Simple Syrup, and Lemon Juice. This drink is like a breath of fresh air, and we love how the flavor of the mountain berry tea comes through.

Dalang’s Delight

It’s light and great to pair with spicy food, as it helps quench some of that spicy heat.

Magic or Tragic?

This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if…

  • You want cocktails that aren’t like the usual sugary Disney cocktails. The drinks at Nomad Lounge are thought out and well-balanced.
  • You want to eat in a pretty outdoor setting. The Nomad Lounge patio here is probably one of the most beautiful and peaceful spots in Disney to enjoy some food and drinks.
  • You want to try a variety of foods. There are plenty of small plate options to try here, and the plates are small enough that you can order as many as you’d like to try. Whatever you do, though, save room for the churros.

You should skip this Disney World spot if…

  • You’re very hungry. If you and your group are looking for a large meal, it would take a lot to make that here. You might want to consider Tusker House instead, where you can indulge in an all-you-can-eat buffet.
  • You want something fast. This is a lounge, but you may have to wait before you can be seated because it’s so popular. Otherwise, you might want to skip this and head to a quick service restaurant instead.
  • You’re on a budget. We’ll never say no to the cocktails and small bites here, but they can add up $$$ fast. If you’re dining on a budget, you may want to skip.
