7 Unspoken Rules for Halloween in Disney World

Halloween is one of the most FUN holidays you can celebrate in Disney World.

Halloween in Disney World

Magic Kingdom literally comes ALIVE with fun fall and Halloween decorations (and this year, the decor expanded beyond Main Street, U.S.A.). You also have Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, as well as all the fun Halloween snacks you’ll find in all four parks, at Disney World hotels, and at Disney Springs. But before you head to Disney World for the spookiest of seasons, there are some things you need to know.

Don’t forget about Magic Kingdom closing early on select days

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party happens on select nights in Magic Kingdom, which means that Magic Kingdom closes early, at 6 PM, for those who don’t have tickets to that evening’s party.

You’ll want to keep an eye on park hours (and the Halloween Party schedule) so you don’t end up having to cut your Magic Kingdom day short. Of course, if you have the park hopper option on your ticket, you might just want to visit Magic Kingdom earlier (and these days are usually less crowded) and then park hop at 6 PM.

Costumes for adults are only allowed for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

When it comes to Halloween, some of us are all about the costumes, but adults can only wear costumes in Disney World’s theme parks if they’re attending Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Magic Kingdom (and note that there are specific rules you’ll have to follow for said costumes).

The good news is that if kids want to dress up in costumes, they can pretty much do so anywhere they want.

If you want real scares, go to Universal Orlando

When it comes to real thrills and scares, you’re not really going to find any in Disney World. However, if you want to be truly scared, you might want to make some time for Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando.

Halloween Horror Nights has actual haunted houses you can walk through and fright zones, so if you want to scream and tremble with fear, you’ll want to buy a ticket for that.

If you’re going to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, get there early

Your Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween party ticket can get you into Magic Kingdom as early as 4 PM, although the party doesn’t start until 7 PM. This gives you a chance to get in some rides or stake out a spot in line for popular activities like the Jack and Sally meet-and-greet.

Get that party wristband early and get to it!

Any time you can get extra hours in Magic Kingdom, you should take advantage of that, right?

Don’t forget about the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival

You might be so focused on Magic Kingdom for the Halloween season in Disney World that you’ve forgotten all about what’s going on in other parks. You do NOT want to miss out on the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival, though. This festival brings a TON of food booths to EPCOT, where you can try all kinds of snacks from around the world.

We LOVE this festival!

So be sure to carve out some time to visit EPCOT and enjoy all the festival happenings, including the Eat to the Beat concert series.

Ride the right rides

It’s spooky season, so you can’t NOT ride the spooky rides in Disney World. That means, you MUST visit the Tower of Terror in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, as well as the Haunted Mansion in Magic Kingdom.

Haunted Mansion

The Haunted Mansion also brings some fun characters to life during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, so be sure to add it to your party list if you’re attending.

Bring an extra bag to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

One of our favorite things to do at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is trick-or-treating. Disney DOES provide a bag for candy, but it’s tiny and you’ll fill it up quickly. We suggest bringing a larger bag so you can grab ALL the candy you can.

It’s tiny

However, keep in mind that this candy is heavy, and if you’re packing leftovers in your suitcase, it could add a lot of extra weight to your bag.

The most important rule of all, though, if you’re visiting Disney World for Halloween, is to have FUN.
