If you’re looking to skip the lines at Disneyland Resort, buying Lightning Lane Multi Pass and/or Lightning Lane Single Pass is the way to go, but it does cost a pretty penny.

However, there’s a secret FREE offering that most people don’t know about, because Disney rarely talks about it! It’s called the Buddy Pass, and here’s why you should check it out on your next trip.
The Buddy Pass is offered at Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! in Disney California Adventure, and it allows a small group (usually one or two people) to enter through the ride’s exit queue rather than the standby line. It’s typically only used when the wait time rises above 20 minutes.

The Buddy Passes are given out at the Cast Member’s discretion, and it’s never guaranteed that one will be given to you. If you are given one, it’s a laminated card that confirms you’ve been given permission to use the exit. To get one, simply ask a Cast Member at the front of the queue. If you are given one, you’ll use the alternate entrance and be placed in a ride vehicle that needs a small group to fill. This usually drops the wait time to 5-10 minutes. This will likely be especially helpful to use in the near future, as Monsters, Inc. is set to be demolished in 2026 to make room for a new Avatar-themed land.

As for its secrecy, Disney doesn’t really advertise it or post any information about it, but it’s not supposed to be hidden, per se. We understand not advertising it, though — if they did, the pass would lose its purpose! It’s also sometimes given out at The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, but is known as the Roo Pass.

Remember, these are never guaranteed, but it doesn’t hurt to ask if you’re by yourself or in a very small group! We’re also curious to see if another attraction will adopt the Buddy Pass once Monsters Inc. closes, so we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled.
