Disney Fans! Mark Your Calendars for September 21st

On September 21st, every Disney fan is going to be glued to their screens with the TV on.

ABC News Studios and 20/20 just announced that they will be airing “The Happiest Story on Earth: 70 Years of Disneyland – a Special Edition of 20/20“. Let’s take a look at the details!

The special event celebrates 70 years of the beloved original Disney theme park, and gives fans a sneak peek at what’s in store for the future of Disneyland Resort. You’ll be able to tune in when it airs on ABC on September 21st. It will also be available to be streamed on Disney+ and Hulu the following day.

Get ready to celebrate seven decades of the magic, joy, and innovation of Disneyland. The show will air at 8:00 PM ET on ABC, pulling back the curtain to reveal the magic behind Walt Disney’s dream. You’ll hear enchanting stories that are sure to fill you up with that Disney magic, and possibly even surprise you.

Viewers will also get the chance to hear reflections on childhood visits to the park from some of Disney’s biggest fans, including Neil Patrick Harris, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jon Favreau, Patrick Warburton, and Tiffany Haddish. Additional appearances include Julie Andrews, who remembers visiting the park with Walt himself, and Josh Gad, who reflects on his dream come true of “working” as a skipper at Jungle Cruise.

There will be observations from the Walt Disney Company’s CEO, Bob Iger, on what the future holds for the Disneyland Resort. The show will also include an exclusive message from Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, on what the park means to them and their family.

The special will be celebrating tons of the creators who have contributed to bringing the “Happiest Place on Earth” to life. Bob Gurr, a former Disney Imagineer who was there on opening day, shares his insights and reflects on working side by side with Walt Disney himself.

The special will also dive into the rich history of some of the park’s most iconic attractions, including Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, and the Haunted Mansion. Viewers will also get to look behind the scenes of Disneyland’s special parades and nighttime spectaculars, including a look inside the “World of Color” control room — an area typically reserved for Cast Members only.

You’ll even get a chance to look at new stuff coming, like the first-ever Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic figure with the Imagineers who helped create “Walt Disney – A Magical Life.”

You’ll also get a sneak peek at more future projects coming to Disney California Adventure, including the expansion to Avengers Campus, a Coco attraction, and the new Avatar land, giving viewers an inside look at how Disney continues to innovate and inspire new generations.
