While being interrogated by Kylo Ren and trying to escape the First Order, our escape pods suddenly stopped.

When we were waiting for the Resistance to help with the rescue, we got a behind-the-scenes look at how Kylo Ren manages his force and lightsaber skills in Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disney World.
We got a closer look at the scene where you see Kylo in the hallway, and with the lights on, there’s no Kylo! This effect is made by projecting Kylo onto something like a piece of plywood while keeping the lightsaber as a separate moving piece.
*SPOILER ALERT*

Is it really that simple of an illusion? Yep!

Disney has some incredible animatronics that make it hard to believe that they’re not real, like the animatronic at the end of Na’vi River Journey.

Other effects are just as simple as when the Haunted Mansion was made in 1969. Many of those effects are clever lighting tricks, like the Pepper’s Ghost effect for the ballroom dancers, where guests are viewing a reflection of the dancers and not a real disappearing animatronic.

In rides like Pirates of the Caribbean, which opened in 1967, effects like the fires in the buildings are done with colored lights, cloth, and fans to create moving flames.

With over 50 years between the original attractions and rides like Rise of the Resistance, it’s crazy that many of the same effects are still being used, just in an updated way.
