5 Outrageous Food Items We Still Can’t Believe Disney Sold

We’ve been eating Disney World food professionally for a long time, and by now, we’ve seen some pretty bizarre food creations.

Disney World

Disney loves a theme, and usually, that means rolling out a ton of new eats and treats that can sometimes miss the mark. And, while you might not be able to find these around the parks anymore, we’re sharing six outrageous food items we still can’t believe Disney sold.

Poop Candy

Yes, you read that correctly. Back in the day, Zuri’s Sweets Shop at Disney’s Animal Kingdom used to sell “Match the Species” animal poop candy. Nope, that’s not a joke — you could get doo-doo desserts. Just a whole buncha poo in the dessert case.

There were elephant, giraffe, cotton-top tamarin, and hippo options to choose from. Each animal had its own flavor — for example, the cotton-top tamarin poop was made with peanut butter fudge, sweet rolled oat flakes, and chocolate pretzel pearls, while the giraffe poop was chocolate fudge brownie and caramel. Sadly, you can’t get these anymore.

Blue Shrimp

Disney World’s Star Wars Hotel may be shuttered for good, but we’ll never forget the blue shrimp. Specifically, the Iced Blue Felucian Shrimp Cocktail. The shrimp shrimp was bright blue and was served with Redball Jungle “Cocktail” Sauce, Pickled Mushrooms, and Ocean Weed. The blue color was from soaking the shrimp in a butterfly pea flower tea.

And, while we had plenty of reservations about trying the blue shrimp, it mostly just tasted like a regular shrimp cocktail. We definitely don’t miss it though and may or may not still have nightmares about it.

Squid Cocktail

Speaking of seafood-related nightmares, have you ever wanted an entire tentacle in your cocktail? No? How strange, because Disney definitely thought that was something you’d want at one point. The Squid’s Revenge cocktail came about during Disney World’s 50th anniversary, to commemorate 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

The Squid’s Revenge!

It was a Michelada with a Salted Rim, garnished with Cucumber and CHARRED OCTOPUS. It was not a hit with our reporters — the drink itself was fine, but the octopus garnish was a major miss.

Gummy Worm Mac & Cheese

Disney Springs used to be home to a food truck that was all about mac and cheese, so of course, we were all about this food truck. We loved the traditional takes on the classic dish along with the twists they made on it, too. Well, except for one…

Gummy worms??

…the Pumpkin Chipotle Mac and Cheese was made with cavatappi pasta topped with a pumpkin cheese sauce, cranberries, and pumpkin seeds. Sounds pretty good, right? Yeah, well, the mac and cheese was also topped with gummy worms for some reason. While we miss the mac and cheese truck, we don’t miss this particular dish!

Moldy Bread Sandwich

This themed treat was a swing and a miss thanks to the blue dye in the bread that made it look like you were eating a moldy sandwich. The Space Sandwich was a pretty basic pulled pork deal with crispy onions, but that bun was just off-putting. The sandwich itself tasted fine, although a bit boring, but we can’t say we’re in a huge hurry to eat any more blue bread.
