The Walt Disney Company is reported to have been the victim of a hacking group that has released thousands of internal messages.

While The Walt Disney Company has not made an official statement on the incident, we wanted to share the details that are known about this incident so far.
According to The Wall Street Journal, an anonymous hacking group called Nullbulge has published internal communications from The Walt Disney Company. The leak was of internal communications via Slack (a business communications platform) and included “discussions about ad campaigns, studio technology, and interview candidates, according to files viewed by The Wall Street Journal.”

The Nullbulge hacking group advocates “for artist rights and chooses its targets based on a set of social, economic or political values.” The hacking group chose to target Disney “due to how it handles artist contracts, its approach to AI, and it’s [sic] pretty blatant disregard for the consumer.”

On their X/Twitter account, Nullbulge posted that they dumped 1.1 terabytes of data including over 10,000 Slack channels. They claim the data includes “unreleased projects, raw images and code, logins, links to internal api/webpages, and more.” Additionally, the hacking group stated that they would have gone deeper but their inside man got cold feet and kicked them out.

The hacking group claims they accessed the information by compromising the computer of a Disney manager of software development. Nullbulge claims the computer was compromised twice. Once with a videogame add-on, while they did not disclose how they gained access the second time.
Disney has not made a statement about the hacking so far, and has only commented to The Wall Street Journal that, “Disney is investigating this matter.”
