NEWS: Disney Reveals New Character Look for Tiana!

If you’re a big fan of Tiana and can’t wait for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure to open in Disney World and Disneyland, we’ve got some exciting news!

Recently, we’ve seen a new addition to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure revealed in Disney World, details shared about a NEW song that’ll be featured in the ride, and even a confirmation of 17 NEW characters you’ll see while on the attraction. But now something NEW has been shared.

During the Essence Festival (which is going on right now), Disney has shared a peek at Tiana’s NEW character look!

If you’re thinking “I’ve already seen this design somewhere!” You’d be right! We saw some concept art of this updated outfit design revealed back in 2022 during the Essence Festival of Culture but that was identified (at the time) more as the new look Tiana will sport ON the ride. The updated photo above from Disney reveals how the costume would look on a character that could meet guests in the park.

Back in 2022, D23 interviewed costume designer Ida Muldrow and cosmetology manager Tisa Powell about Tiana’s new look. Powell said, “They told us what they wanted to do with Tiana, how they wanted to keep everything authentic and true to the ethnic background of African Americans.”

Tiana’s new look is inspired by military and equestrian clothing, and the Imagineers considered a variety of factors when finalizing it, including 1920s fashion trends and the historical forces at play during this time period. They also tried to incorporate the yellow and green color palette of the movie.

Disney has not officially said if the character will appear for meet-and-greets in this version of the costume in the parks. Their caption about the reveal simply says “Princess Tiana is dressed for a bayou adventure!” And it goes on to note that Princess Tiana “in her royal gown…awaits your visit today.”

It’s possible that Tiana will appear in this new look once the ride opens in 2024, but again nothing has been confirmed yet.
