Many fans were super excited to hear that Frozen would be getting a third installment.

There hasn’t been a ton of information released about the film just yet, but we do know that the composers of the first two films were just as surprised about the announcement as we all were. Now however some interesting news has been announced — one of the co-directors of the original films will NOT be returning.
In a conversation with The Wrap at this year’s Annecy Animation Festival festival, Jennifer Lee, the co-director of both Frozen and Frozen 2, has revealed she will not be returning to direct the third film.

Specifically, Lee said that she can’t reveal where they are with the story of Frozen 3, but that the direction they’re going “did not come from me. It came from an incredible person,” and goes on to say that she’s been “blown away by it and I’m just having a blast with that team.”

Lee will still be involved with the film in an “advisory or mentor capacity” however, so she isn’t stepping away from the world completely. She’s quoted saying she’s enjoying working in this capacity on the new film “cause we’ve lived the world for awhile together and a lot of the artists in the studio grew up with that film too, both of them, and have been there the whole way…They kinda own them as much as anyone else.”

This isn’t the end of Lee’s directing career though. She says she’d love to return to directing in the future and that she’s “only done two films and I do believe there’s a time — I’ll know it” for her to return to being a director.
