REOPENING Details Announced for Disney World Parks After Hurricane Ian

Hurricane Ian has had a significant impact on various places in Florida.

Disney World shut down its theme parks and Disney Springs on September 28th and 29th, Universal Orlando also closed its parks temporarily, and SeaWorld has extended its closure. So what’s going on with the Disney parks now and when will they reopen? Will they extend that closure? We’ve got an update from Disney.

Disney Parks shared via Twitter that they will soon be sharing more information about their plan to support relief efforts for Florida following the impacts of Hurricane Ian. They also sent out a special thank you to first responders, community leaders, and Cast Members.

In terms of park reopenings, Disney noted that they anticipate weather conditions will improve this evening. Due to the improving weather, Disney World will “resume theme park and Disney Springs operations in a phased approach starting on Friday, September 30th.”

The operating hours for these areas will be shared later today on the Disney World weather updates page.

Previously, Disney had not shown any availability for theme park reservations on September 30th, which we shared could have been an indication that the closure would be extended. But it seems that is not the case. Note, however, that the Park Pass availability calendar still shows September 30th as “gray” — meaning it is unavailable for those seeking to make a new park pass at this time.

Certain Disney World hotel areas will remain closed through September 30th. This includes Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground, Copper Creek Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and the Bungalows at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort (among other spots).

Additionally, Disney has announced that Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue will be canceled through September 30th.

When it comes to dining reservations and reservations for special experiences like Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and Savi’s Workshop, Disney has also announced that they are temporarily not enforcing cancelation policies until further notice. We’ll be on the lookout for updates about that.
