NEWS: Hawaii, Home to Disney's Aulani Resort, Declares State of Emergency

Hawaii is in a state of emergency due to a major storm that caused damage and flooding across the islands, according to NBC News.

Disney has a resort located in Hawaii — Aulani — on the island of Oahu that is also being impacted by this severe weather.

Governor David Ige posted a statement on Twitter Monday saying he signed the emergency declaration as a type of seasonal cyclone called “Kona low” brought heavy rains to the islands. He said they were expected to “continue to cause flooding and damage” across the state, according to NBC News. The state of emergency lasts until at least Friday, December 10th.

Power was knocked out for hundreds of customers as roads were flooded and trees were downed in the state. Homes were also flooded and roads were blocked due to mudslides, according to The Weather Channel.

The Honolulu Fire Department responded to at least 47 storm-related calls through Monday afternoon, which included damaged roofs, downed trees, floodwaters in homes, and requests for vehicle rescues and evacuations, according to The Weather Channel.

The area that Disney’s resort Aulani is in on the island Oahu has been impacted by the severe weather, but the Flash Flood Warning for the island expired Tuesday morning.
