Disney recently released Cruella, a movie about the iconic villain and fashionista from 101 Dalmatians, featuring Emma Stone. Make sure to watch the trailer if you haven’t yet!

There was already a lot of excitement around the movie but now, the film’s production designer, Fiona Crombie, is sharing some behind-the-scenes details!
Thanks to Variety, we got to understand the designs behind Cruella’s den in the film! Fiona Crombie worked on over 100 sets to create the 1970s London look. She took inspiration from abandoned locks for most of the movie.

The lair’s history begins when Cruella and her friends are kids, stealing everything and making a home wherever they could find. At this point, Crombie made the lair warm and homey — not yet scary at all.

Crombie wanted viewers to be able to tell that this space used to be something magnificent at one point in time, but shifts in history have now made it into Cruella’s home. Throughout the film, this set evolves as the character Cruella evolves.

Crombie also put plenty of detail into other sets like the Baroness’ Warehouse and Roger’s flat, which directly mirrors that of the original animation. She considered everything from scissors and pencils to sheets of music!

The sets in Cruella are nothing short of amazing, and we would expect nothing less for a film about such an icon! The live action film is available on Disney+ with premier access and in theaters as of May 28. We’ll continue to give you behind-the-scenes details for Disney films, so stay tuned!
