Your Water Bottles Are Going to an Unexpected Place in Disney World!

Earth Month may be over, but Disney is still finding new ways to create more sustainable practices in the parks.

Last month we learned about the ways that Disney is using solar energy to provide power to the parks and resorts around the world, and even the Disney Cruise Line is working to be more sustainable — their new ship (the Disney Wish) will use liquid natural gas. And, while many of these are things guests may never see, there are actually tons of efforts that Cast Members in Disney World are actively participating in now!

Remember when Cast Members around the Disney World Resort hotels were getting new costumes earlier this year? Well, it turns out that the new costumes are actually made out of recycled plastic water bottles!

It’s true! Thanks to the innovative costuming department for the resort, each apron uses 50 water bottles. You can find these newly styled costumes at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, the BoardWalk Bakery, Disney’s Art of Animation, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, and more!

And, over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Cast Members put their creativity to the test last month during a competition to design their own compost bucket. They created some of the coolest-looking compost buckets we’ve seen and they even did some recycling in the process — all of the buckets were repurposed from food and beverage locations in the park.

Remember those unique trash cans we spotted at Restaurantosaurus way back in February? Well, maybe some trash from there was used to make these — who knows!

Disney is even working to reduce waste in their office locations at Disney World. They’ve reduced their use of printers by roughly 40% and they’re working to incorporate more energy-efficient devices into their workflow.
