It’s been a strange year for travel, as extremely popular spots like Orlando have seen the lowest amount of tourists in ten years.

Though recently, attendance has started to increase steadily as more people begin to travel for their holidays and vacations.

CNBC has reported that airports have seen the highest amount of TSA passenger screenings this past weekend than they have in nearly a year. The TSA noted that the officers have screened 1,357,111 people at the airports this past Friday, March 12th. This number is a massive boost from the low point of 87,500 passengers last April at TSA checkpoints.

Travel in 2020 was down 60% compared to the previous year across the 440 airports that the TSA serves in the United States. The airlines lost more than $35 billion during the huge reduction in travel, so this boost could mean that the industry may be gradually returning to a sense of normalcy.

Now that the COVID-19 vaccine is becoming more widely available, travel may become common once again for more people. Still, the number of passengers on Friday was still 20% lower than on March 12th last year. We’ll have to continue taking a look at what airports are like moving forward.
