As if travel wasn’t already expensive, the prices continue to go UP.

If you’ve got any travel plans coming up, there’s a chance that your total cost is going to be more expensive than you anticipated, as baggage prices begin to rise. Five major U.S. airlines have recently announced that prices are going up on baggage fees, and we have all the details.
If you’re looking for a travel agent to help with your vacation, we recommend our friends at Mouse Fan Travel. They’re experts in the field with over 20 years of vacation planning experience, and they can help take a bunch of the stress out of the entire booking process for you.
As of April 7th, Delta Air Lines will be charging most passengers more to check their bags. The first checked bag will start at $45, with the second costing $55. These changes will only apply to tickets purchased on or after April 8th on domestic and select short-haul international routes. For long-haul international routes, checked bag prices will not change.

When talking about the changes, a Delta spokesperson told USA TODAY, “These updates are part of Delta’s ongoing review of pricing across its business and reflect the impact of evolving global conditions and industry dynamics.”

Southwest Airlines announced that it will also be increasing checked bag fees. The changes will be applied to reservations made or changed voluntarily after April 9th. Southwest will now charge $45 instead of $35 for the first checked bag, with the second checked bag costing $55.

A Southwest Airlines statement made about the change said, “As part of an ongoing analysis of the business and against the evolving global backdrop, Southwest Airlines is increasing its fees on first and second checked bags by $10.”

Also, as of April 9th, American Airlines will have increased its checked bag fees by $10. Prepaid checked bags will be $45 for the first, while the second will be $55. The price then skyrockets for the third checked bag, costing $200.

United Airlines will charge $50 for the first checked bag, or $45 for passengers who prepay. While JetBlue will be charging $39 for the first checked bag during off-peak travel times, and $49 during peak times, which would include the summer and holidays.

All these bag price increases are due to the rising cost of jet fuel, which has more than doubled since the Iran war and Strait of Hormuz closure.

If you’re planning on traveling with any of these airlines, be prepared for any baggage increases. If you’re in any loyalty groups for these airlines, you may not have to worry about these prices.

We’ll be keeping an eye out for more travel news, so you can be aware of any changes and updates going on. Make sure to follow us at AllEars so you don’t miss anything.
