Disney’s taken an intersting approach to making major announcements regarding Walt Disney World lately, and we’re a bit confused.

2026 has already seen a major — and hyped — Disney ride (re)opening, with several more on the horizon, and yet their approach has been somewhat understated.
For example, the early months of 2026 saw a highly anticipated refurbishment at EPCOT. In January, Frozen Ever After closed so that Disney could install brand new animatronics of Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff, closer to those on other versions of the ride (including Hong Kong Disneyland’s) than the original projection-mapped versions in place since the ride’s opening.
Anticipation was high among fans for the new animatronics debut, so clearly Disney was going to announce its exact reopening date with a big social media post or Disney Parks Blog announcement, right? Or maybe they’ll just nonchalantly add hours to the Walt Disney World calendar?
Wait, what?
It’s true! Disney did exactly this with Frozen, and in fact have done so several times recently. On the surface, it’s kind of a strange approach to take. After all, given the hype and excitement for something like the new Frozen animatronics, one would think Disney would want to milk the opening for all it was worth.

However, on second thought, Disney’s approach does make sense when considering the fact that these reopenings often involve new technology that hasn’t been operationally tested in Walt Disney World yet, so perhaps they’re purposely underplaying something like the reopening of Frozen to make sure that the opening goes smoothly and the ride is operating correctly before crowds descend.

Over the remainder of 2026, Disney has several more rides scheduled to reopen from major refurbishments with as-yet-unconfirmed opening dates, including:
- In celebration of America’s 250th birthday this coming July, EPCOT’s Soarin’ will receive an “all-new airborne adventure across the US, honoring the heart and spirit of the nation.” Disney even brought in “aviation” legend Patrick Warburton (IYKYK) to announce the overlay, which is scheduled to open in the late spring.
- On March 2nd, the original version of the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster is set to close for a comparatively brief refurbishment, which will see the coaster trade its original Aerosmith theming for a new story tied to the Muppets, including a new pre-show featuring the characters and music from the Muppet group the Electric Mayhem. The new, “Muppetized” version of the coaster is scheduled to open this summer.
- The iconic E-Ticket Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has been closed since January 2025 for a massive refurbishment project. According to Disney, the attraction is scheduled to reopen in Spring 2026 with “new magic,” including a fully refurbished track and a new sequence inspired by the Rainbow Caverns of Disneyland’s Mine Train Through Nature’s Wonderland. The ride is scheduled to reopen this summer.
- Tomorrowland’s Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin closed on August 4th, 2025, for a refurbishment that is scheduled to end sometime this spring. The refurbished attraction will feature new ride vehicles, new blasters, and a new scene featuring the park’s original robot character named Buddy, who will ensure “departing Space Rangers are fully prepared for their mission (by) enthusiastically providing encouragement, final system checks on their Star Cruisers, and a chance to hone their blaster aim.”

It will be interesting to see if Disney follows the same understated playbook for these refurbished attractions’ openings, or if they announce and market specific opening dates beyond the Disney World operational calendar. Stay tuned to AllEars for the latest on the “Most Magical Place on Earth.”
