REVIEW: There’s a Reason This Pricey Disney World Restaurant Is So Popular

Planning a trip to Disney World and not sure where you should eat while you’re there? Luckily, you’ve come to the right place!

The Cake Bake Shop

Here at AllEars, we know all the ins and outs of Disney restaurants — including where you should definitely eat, and where you should skip. We recently stopped by The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers at Disney’s BoardWalk and are bringing you our FULL review!

Background

This Table Service restaurant serves items from both sweet and savory menus for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner in a truly opulent setting.

The Cake Bake Shop

Here’s what you need to know about dining at this restaurant.

Atmosphere

The moment you step into The Cake Bake Shop, you’re met with elegance. It’s in the paint, the floors, the designs — everything. Honestly, for some, you may feel like you’ve just stepped into the most magical tea party of your life.

Cake Bake Shop seating

There are a few different seating areas, along with a gorgeous champagne bar.

Champagne Bar

One thing is for sure, though, no matter where you’re seated, you’ll be surrounded by floral decor, sparkling lights, and general opulence.

SO pretty

But enough about that, what are we eating?!

Food & Drinks

To kick things off, we ordered the Truffle Pommes Frites for $18. These are made with truffle oil, smoked sea salt, thyme, and Parmesan cheese, and served with homemade garlic aioli.

Truffle Pommes Frite

Girl dinner has entered the chat. The truffle flavor here is more subtle than you might expect, but the fries make up for it with a heavy garlic flavor and parmesan that is just the perfect combination. They’re savory and rich, but the real star here is the garlic aioli served on the side. It’s SO garlicky — in the best way — and is the kind of sauce you want to dip everything in.

The aioli is SO good

We were clearly in a French fry mood, because we also grabbed the Gumbo Poutine for $27. This is a chicken and andouille gumbo with pommes frites and cheese curds.

Gumbo Poutine

This is genuinely phenomenal, mostly because of how delicious the gumbo itself is. It’s incredibly rich and flavorful, with just the right amount of spice. The gravy-like texture works SO well as a topping to the fries. We also love that they didn’t skimp on chicken or sausage, so you get a little bit of everything here.

The cheese curds are huge, soft, and seriously melty. They were more creamy than squeaky, but we didn’t mind that, considering they made the dish a gooey, cheesy masterpiece. The fries are seasoned well, too, and there was a good amount of soft fries and crispy ones — the best of both worlds.

So much flavor

For the main event, we ordered the Croque Monsieur, which you can get for $27. This is made with country bread, French ham, Gruyère cheese, Maille Dijon mustard, and béchamel sauce.

Croque Monsieur

This was a classic Croque Monsieur sandwich, with layers of ham and melted Swiss cheese inside, plus a creamy béchamel sauce on top that was perfectly broiled for a bit of toastiness. It’s rich, indulgent, and oh-so-satisfying. The Dijon mustard on this sandwich is more on the horseradish side, so if you’re averse to that, keep it in mind.

The arugula salad served on the side felt like a bit of an afterthought, though it was fresh and had nice flavor. It’s just not very substantial, and while you can substitute fries if you want, we felt like we had already had enough for the day!

A solid choice

And, of course, it wouldn’t be a trip to the Cake Bake Shop without cake, right? We had Gwendolyn’s Famous Earl’s Court Chocolate Cake for $22. This is a Valrhona French chocolate cake filled with Callebaut Belgian chocolate ganache and malted chocolate cream, topped with Callebaut Belgian chocolate fudge and Fleur de Sel.

Gwendolyn’s Famous Earl’s Court Chocolate Cake

If you think all chocolate cake is the same, you need to try this one. You can taste the quality right away — it’s rich, and reminds us of the chocolate cake at Steakhouse 71, only WAY more decadent. The cake itself was fluffy but still a bit fudgy, and it wasn’t overly sweet. The chocolate flavor is complemented by a creamy, chocolate ganache that we could have straight-up eaten with a spoon. The Fleur de Sel sprinkled on top is (literally) the icing on the cake — it helps cut through the sweetness in the best way.

There’s a reason they’re known for cake!

So, should you book a table at The Cake Bake Shop?

Magic or Tragic?

This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if…

  • Craving cake with main-character energy. Towering, photogenic slices are the headline here—rich, shareable, and yes, famously pricey. Come for the drama (and the buttercream), stay for the Instagrammable eats.
  • You want an all-day restaurant steps from EPCOT. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus lean polished-bistro (gumbo, crab cakes, truffle fries, burrata), and the location on Disney’s BoardWalk makes it an easy glide from International Gateway.
  • You’re celebrating something (or someone) special. From glittery décor to champagne-ready moments, this feels like a birthday, engagement, or girls’ trip venue baked into a meal—equal parts dining room and dessert runway.

You should skip this Disney World spot if…

  • You’re watching your budget. Between entrées and those 20-plus-dollar cake slices, costs add up fast—this is a splurge, not a saver.
  • You want a quick, low-key bite. It’s a sit-down, celebration-leaning experience that can book up; OpenTable sometimes shows more availability than Disney’s site, but spontaneity isn’t guaranteed.
  • You’re here for adventurous savory over sweets. The menu reads polished American with Southern nods and seafood, but the showstopper is dessert. If you’re after chef-driven complexity (or ultra-light fare), this may not hit your bullseye.
We loved this meal

The Cake Bake Shop might be known for its desserts, but we have really enjoyed our meals here — no matter if it’s breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They really do SO many things well, here, and the service is top-notch. Our server, Chris, was SO wonderful and attentive and really made this lunch feel special.

In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Disney World and beyond. Make sure you stay tuned to AllEars for the latest Disney news and more!

  1. OMG….I just ate there last night and had the Croque Monsieur. It was absolutely delicious, and I don’t even like ham. But the melty cheese and the dreamy Bechamel sauce (made with real cream, no doubt) put it over the top. Then dessert was the seasonal German chocolate cake. Cheese and chocolate….the absolute essential food groups!
