Heads Up! Magic Kingdom Is CHANGING This Month

Heads up if you’re heading to Disney World this month: A major refurbishment project — yes, another one — is about to begin on a Magic Kingdom icon.

Magic Kingdom

Construction is an ongoing theme at the Magic Kingdom right now. The new Piston Peak and Villains Land areas are taking shape, while Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin are in the midst of months-long refurbishments. Now, the Magic Kingdom’s most iconic architectural element — Cinderella Castle — is set to join those projects.

In the summer of 2025, Disney announced that Cinderella Castle would be returning to its “classic” color scheme in 2026, highlighted by “handsome blues and radiant golds.” According to Disney, these colors were “chosen to reflect the Florida sunshine in a way that makes the castle shimmer from every angle.“

Later in the year, Disney explained how the 2026 castle refurbishment would be executed. Beginning in January 2026, the moat around the castle will be drained, and each morning, cranes will rise above the structure to allow painting. However, if you’re visiting the Magic Kingdom, don’t fret. The cranes will be lowered by 12:00 PM each day, meaning that you’ll have all afternoon and evening to take your photos in front of the iconic edifice.
