The next year of new attractions at Disney World might be great for guests, but things could get messy for Cast Members.

Disney typically adds blackout dates to Cast Member admission whenever big new rides open, and 2026 is shaping up to be one of the biggest new-ride years Disney World has seen in a long time. With major attractions debuting or returning across just about every park, the big question is whether Cast Members will be blocked out of nearly the entire resort at once. CM previews help, but they may not make up for a year packed with overlapping blockouts. Let’s walk through what’s coming and why things could get complicated.
Cast Members usually see blackout dates when new lands, major rethemes, or heavy-hitting attractions open. It’s standard, it’s predictable, and it usually affects only one park at a time.

The problem in 2026 is that new experiences are hitting Walt Disney World from every angle. When every park has a “new ride” moment, every park may also get its own string of blackout dates. CM previews will give Cast Members early access to each attraction, as they usually do, but the previews don’t remove the possibility of prolonged stretches where regular admission is restricted.

Hollywood Studios is the first place where things could get tricky. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is getting a major overhaul that launches May 22nd, 2026, to tie in with the new film The Mandalorian & Grogu. This version will introduce brand-new missions featuring the Mandalorian, Grogu, Hondo Ohnaka, and a whole list of new Star Wars destinations like Bespin, Tatooine, Coruscant, Beggar’s Canyon, and even the ruins of the Death Star. The core pilot, gunner, and engineer roles remain, but the engineer will now get to choose the destination with input from the rest of the crew. The updated story, visuals, and gameplay will make this one of the biggest refreshes Hollywood Studios has seen in years. With hype this strong, blackout dates feel almost guaranteed.

Hollywood Studios is also reopening Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in 2026. This version stars The Muppets, replaces Aerosmith entirely, and features what Disney is calling the first-of-its-kind Muppet animatronic. Scooter will anchor the new story, and the Electric Mayhem will be racing to make it to their concert as penguin audio engineers scramble behind the scenes. This update is expected in summer 2026 and will almost certainly come with its own blackout window. When you combine two major openings in the same park, Cast Members might see extended limits on their Hollywood Studios access.

EPCOT isn’t getting a brand-new attraction, but Soarin’ Across America is still a major retheme full of new scenes, scents, music, and locations. This is part of the celebration for the United States’ 250th birthday and debuts in summer 2026. Soarin’ overlays have always been popular, and this one brings more than a dozen fresh sequences. Even though it’s temporary, it still counts as a new experience, and EPCOT often gets blackout windows around these kinds of changes. CM previews will help, but EPCOT could still become a tough park to access during the launch period.

Magic Kingdom is where things get really intense for 2026. Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin is reopening with major upgrades that include a brand-new introductory character named Buddy, redesigned Star Command-inspired ride vehicles with digital scoring displays, improved lighting, and new handheld blasters that feature vibrations, sound effects, and always-on lasers. Targets that light up when hit will make this feel almost like a brand-new attraction. With the scope of these changes, a blackout period is extremely likely.

Magic Kingdom is also reopening Big Thunder Mountain Railroad after over a year of work. This version brings a revamped story, glowing natural caverns, phosphorescent pools, new lighting, shimmering stalagmites and stalactites, a smoother track, and exterior updates to connect the mountain more closely to the Piston Peak expansion. Big Thunder is one of the park’s cornerstone attractions, so the reopening may draw huge crowds and extended blackout dates. With two big Magic Kingdom reopenings in one year, Cast Members may see some of their longest blockouts yet.

That’s the challenge. CM blockouts usually rotate between parks, but in 2026, just about every park is rolling out something big. When you combine Hollywood Studios’ double-header of Smugglers Run and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, EPCOT’s updated Soarin’, and Magic Kingdom’s duo of Buzz Lightyear and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Cast Members could see themselves blocked out from one park after another for most of the year. It won’t mean total resort-wide blockouts every single day, but the overlap could make spontaneous days in the parks much harder.

We’re keeping an eye on how Disney handles Cast Member previews and admission calendars because 2026 is shaping up to be a very unusual year. As soon as blockout schedules start rolling out and CM preview dates are announced, we’ll bring you every update so you know exactly what to expect.
