Disney Just Canceled The ‘Holes’ TV Show Before It Ever Aired

Well, not every Disney+ show is created equally. Disney’s streaming service has had some major hits like the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians and the new Taylor Swift The End of an Era documentary.

They’ve also had some series that were canceled before they even hit the platform. Sadly, if you’re a fan of Holes, the new series won’t be moving forward, but we’re seriously surprised for one major reason!

According to Variety, Disney+ isn’t moving forward with the Holes TV show. The show, which was previously announced in 2025, was going to be an adaptation of the Louis Sachar novel, “Holes.” This book was also the basis of the popular 2003 film, which starred Shia LaBeouf.

The film followed Shia’s character, Stanley Yates, after he was sent to a juvenile detention camp for a crime he didn’t commit. At the camp, he and the other boys were forced to dig holes in search of a treasure. Throughout the film, he slowly discovered his own family’s connection to the treasure. The television series was going to be a gender bent version of the film, following a female main character.

Shay Rudolph was set to play Hayley, the lead role, with Greg Kinnear set to be the warden. The cast also included SNL alum Aidy Bryant, Noah Cottrell, and Flor Delis Alicea, Anire Kim Amoda, Iesha Daniels, Sophie Dieterlen, Alexandra Doke, and Maeve Press. Variety didn’t detail exactly why the choice to cancel was made.
