Why People Are Suddenly Dropping $349 on Lightning Lanes at Hollywood Studios

Hollywood Studios is one of our favorite Disney theme parks! It’s full of glitz, glam, thrill, and fun. Star Wars lovers enjoy Galaxy’s Edge, Toy Story fans can’t get enough of Andy’s backyard, and thrill seekers can find some of the most exciting rides in Disney World.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

While we know this is a fun theme park, it might come as a HUGE surprise that people are dropping large amounts of money (upwards of $349) to get on these well-known rides. So what’s the deal? Why are people spending so much money on Lightning Lanes in Hollywood Studios, and will you have to do the same to ride the attractions?

As we get closer and closer to the holidays, Disney World is getting busier and busier. The weeks just before and after Christmas are the busiest times of the year at the resort. This means much higher crowds and long lines for all the attractions, especially the ever-popular rides at Hollywood Studios.

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway

Luckily, Disney offers three variations of Lightning Lanes to help cut down your time waiting in line for attractions. Lightning Lane Premier Pass is the highest-priced of the three variations. This year, from December 23rd until just past Christmas, the cost of the Hollywood Studios Premier Pass is $349. This pass lets you get on every single Lightning Lane ride in the one park one time without needing to reserve a return time.

Rise of the Resistance entrance

Lightning Lane Multi Pass can be purchased for $30 to $40 for Hollywood Studios (depending on the day). This option will get you access to Lightning Lanes for most of the rides in Hollywood Studios, and you can park hop with this option! With Multi Pass, you must book a return window for each ride.

Slinky Dog Dash Lightning Lane

The last option is Lightning Lane Single Pass. This is a pass for only one ride; in Hollywood Studios, this ride is Rise of the Resistance, and it’s typically available to purchase for $22 to $25.

Rise of the Resistance Lightning Lane and Standby Entry

All three of these Lightning Lane variations, Premier Pass, Multi Pass, and Single Pass, can be purchased in advance (7 days in advance for those staying at a Disney World Hotel or select other hotel, and 3 days in advance for everyone else). With the really high crowds this time of year, it’s not uncommon for them to sell out, even Premier Pass!

Toy Story Mania

Without using Lightning Lanes during the holiday season, you may find yourself standing in line for hours for one ride. For example, last year, on December 18th, Rise of the Resistance had a 65 to 80 minute wait throughout the entire day. And that’s not even on the busiest day of the season! These high wait times are why people drop $349 per person on Lightning Lanes, and why it even sells out. If you really want to ensure you get on all the rides, this can be a great way to do it without the long waits.

Tower of Terror

Of course, you do not HAVE to spend that kind of money to enjoy Hollywood Studios this time of year. You can use the other Lightning Lane options or the Disney World hotel perks, such as Extended Evening Hours or Early Park Entry, to skip the long lines.

Hollywood Studios

There are multiple options to purchase Lightning Lanes at Hollywood Studios, some more expensive than others, but with more benefits. If you’re planning a visit this holiday season when the crowds are high and the lines are long, you might want to consider grabbing one or more of these Lightning Lane options!
