It seems like more and more incidents are happening in airports around the world.

Sometimes, it’s just an issue of weather resulting in huge flight delays. Recently, there was an issue of ransomware causing serious delays in Europe. Another incident involved a near-collision of two planes in France. Now, The New York Times is reporting that two planes have collided at New York’s LaGuardia Airport.
Two regional flights collided on a LaGuardia Airport taxiway on Wednesday, October 1st, 2025. The incident happened when a plane operated by Endeavor Air, a subsidiary of Delta Air Lines, was getting ready to take off when it hit another aircraft that was heading to a gate. The crash resulted in one flight attendant reporting a minor injury. However, no passengers were hurt.

Delta said that a preliminary investigation suggested that the wing of the departing plane made contact with the fuselage of the arriving plane. The Federal Aviation Administration is currently investigating the collision. In an early statement, the FAA said, “Air traffic control instructed Flight 5155 to hold short and yield to the other aircraft.” This was while the other flight, 5047, was heading to its gate.

The National Transportation Safety Board confirmed that flight 5155 sustained damage to its right wing, while 5047 had damage to its nose and windscreen. Passengers on the flights were taken to the terminal by bus after police officers and firefighters completed an inspection of the plane’s exterior. Passengers were also given meals and hotel rooms for the evening and booked on flights for the following day.
This happened during the current U.S. government shutdown, but air traffic controllers are deemed essential personnel, so they are working through the shutdown. The shutdown shouldn’t have an immediate effect on flying, although if it goes on for longer, it could affect it. Nearly 45,000 people who work for the FAA are being furloughed during the shutdown, which will shut down some air services related to safety.
