There’s nothing quite like fireworks exploding over Cinderella Castle at the end of a Disney World day.

Every night, thousands of guests crowd into Magic Kingdom (and EPCOT, and Hollywood Studios) to snag their spot for the big show. But with so many people trying to enjoy the same view, things can get messy fast if you’re not mindful of some unwritten rules. We’re here to give you the insider scoop on what to avoid, what to do, and how to keep the magic alive for everyone around you. Let’s talk about the five unspoken rules you’ll want to keep in mind the next time you’re waiting for those fireworks to light up the sky.
Please Don’t Put Kids on Your Shoulders
We get it—your kid wants to see the castle. But here’s the thing: when you put them on your shoulders, you’re basically blocking out half the skyline for the entire row behind you. It might not feel like a big deal, but imagine waiting 90 minutes in the hub only to have your perfect view suddenly disappear right before the show starts.

A better option? Sit your kid on your hip if possible. Even standing them on the ground but near a railing or fence line gives them a clear view without taking away someone else’s. Everyone paid to be there, and everyone deserves a chance to see the fireworks.
Don’t Hold Your Giant iPad Up
Yes, we’ve seen it. Someone pulls out a massive tablet and holds it up above their head like they’re filming the next Marvel movie. Not only does this block the view for a dozen people behind you, but it’s also not a great recording. Fireworks just never look the same on a screen.

If you want to take photos or videos, stick to your phone. Hold it at eye level, not above your head, so it doesn’t block the view. That way, you still get your memories, and everyone else gets to enjoy the actual fireworks instead of staring at the glow of your iPad.
Try Not to Block Little Kids’ Views
This one is more about awareness. If you notice a group of kids in right behind you and you know you’re much taller than they are, try to adjust where you’re standing. It doesn’t mean you need to crouch for 20 minutes, but shifting slightly to the left or right so they can peek through makes a huge difference.

We’ve all been that kid craning our necks, trying to catch a glimpse of Tinker Bell flying. A small gesture from you can create a core memory for them. It’s one of those Disney kindness moments that doesn’t cost you anything but feels huge to someone else.

Also, if you’re standing near the front and a family asks if their kids can stand in front of you, consider saying yes. Most of the time, kids don’t block your view at all, and you get to help someone else’s family enjoy the moment.

We’ve let kids stand in front of us plenty of times, and not once has it taken away from our experience. In fact, watching them gasp when the first firework goes off just makes it better. It’s one of those small acts that keeps Disney feeling magical.
Don’t Push Through at the Last Minute
This might be the most frustrating one of all. People camp out in the hub or near the castle for more than an hour to lock in their spot. Then, five minutes before the show, someone tries to squeeze their entire family through, acting shocked when no one wants to move.

The rule is simple: if you want that prime spot, you’ve got to put in the time. Don’t show up late and expect everyone else to make room. And definitely don’t push past people—it’s rude, it ruins the vibe, and it’s not the way Disney magic should work.
Mobile Order Ahead of Time
If you’re planning on grabbing snacks or drinks to enjoy while you wait, do it early. Right before fireworks, Mobile Order is basically chaos. Kitchens get backed up, wait times can skyrocket, and by the time your food is ready, you might have lost your spot or missed the first big burst over the castle.

The smarter move is to place your Mobile Order well before the crowds pick up. Grab your food, settle in, and you’ll be stress-free when the crowds start rushing Main Street. Plus, it means you’ll have snacks ready to keep you entertained during the wait.

Fireworks are supposed to be the grand finale of your Disney World day, not the most stressful part. By following these unspoken rules, you make the show better for yourself and for everyone else around you.
