Universal Studios has changed again!

A popular Universal roller coaster has permanently closed after operating for 16 years. Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is no more, and it seems like Universal is wasting no time at all! The construction walls are up, and the rumor mill is flying on what will replace the popular attraction.
The time to mourn has arrived. We have seen many rides close over our lifetimes of covering theme parks, but this one still hurt! Construction walls have covered Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit in Universal Studios now that it has officially closed on August 18th, 2025.

We stopped by the theme park to check it out ourselves, and so far, it seems like everything is still intact. We witnessed workers taking the lift up to the top of the attraction to take some photos of the view. We’re assuming this is for the demolition of the attraction.

Universal has yet to announce what will replace the popular coaster, but there are some theories. According to People, many are speculating it will be another thrill coaster. What we do know is that Universal filed a demolition permit in December 2024. In March 2025, they filed another permit hinting that a 2-story building might replace the attraction. Some fans have speculated a Ghostbusters-themed attraction online, where others have theorized a Fast and Furious coaster similar to what’s going on at Universal Hollywood.

This is the first time we’ve seen a popular attraction close. In 2017, the park closed the Dragon Challenge coaster, which was replaced with Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. In 2015, they closed Twister…Ride it Out and replaced it with Race Through New York With Jimmy Fallon. Famously, we lost the Jaws attraction to make way for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley.

If Universal does put in the Fast and Furious coaster, we’re curious to see if Fast and Furious Supercharged will remain open. This attraction is commonly considered one of the park’s most lackluster attractions, so we wouldn’t be too surprised if it’s on the chopping block.

We can’t wait to see what replaced this classic coaster, but we will never forget you, Rip Ride! As always, be sure to keep following AllEars for more Universal news and updates.
