Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is officially on the chopping block — and the end is coming up faster than expected.

Universal Orlando recently updated their website to reveal the actual closing date for this iconic roller coaster, and let’s just say… if you’ve been putting off that last ride, you might want to bump up your travel plans. Originally announced to be closing in early September 2025, it turns out the last day to ride will now be Sunday, August 17th. We’ve got all the key details below, including why it’s closing and thoughts as to what might be taking its place.
Rip Ride Rockit’s New Closing Date
So here’s the deal: Universal confirmed that Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit will permanently close on August 18th, 2025. That means August 17th is your final shot to strap in, crank your custom soundtrack, and take one last scream-filled spin through the sky over Universal Studios Florida.

This is a bit of a curveball because we were originally told this coaster would be sticking around until early September. That’s what Universal announced back in December 2024. But now, with this new official date, we’re looking at a two-to-three week bump up.

That may not sound like a huge difference, but if your Universal vacation was timed for the last-minute goodbyes in early September, it definitely changes your plans. You’ll either need to move your trip up or come to terms with missing it entirely.
Why Is It Closing?
We don’t have all the details yet, but Universal did say it’s shutting down Rip Ride Rockit “to make way for a new experience.” As for what that means? Your guess is as good as ours.

We do know that Universal filed a demolition permit back in December 2024. Then another permit popped up in March 2025 — this time hinting at a new two-story building that might be going in its place. That kind of setup opens the door to a LOT of possibilities.

Naturally, the rumor mill is in overdrive. The most popular theory so far? A Ghostbusters-themed attraction. And while nothing’s confirmed yet, fans are already dreaming up what that could look like — proton packs, haunted effects, ectoplasm flying everywhere. Again, no official word on what’s replacing it. But something big is clearly on the horizon.
Plan Accordingly
The earlier closure means there’s a shorter window to say goodbye. If Rip Ride Rockit is on your bucket list — or you just want one final ride for nostalgia’s sake — you’ll want to make sure your Universal trip lands before August 18th.

If it’s a high-priority ride for you, get there early and knock it out first before lines build (and that Orlando heat kicks in).
What’s Next?
We don’t know yet if this “new experience” is going to be IP-based, a new thrill ride, a dark ride, or something entirely different. But we’ll be keeping an eye on permits, rumors, and official announcements as they roll in — and we’ll keep you updated every step of the way.

In the meantime, start planning that final ride. Because come August 18th, Rip Ride Rockit will officially be gone.
