Last year, Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas set sail for the first time. The ship, which is one of the largest cruise ships in the world, has a crew of over 2,000 people and can carry over 7,000 passengers.

The ship also features seven swimming pools and six water slides. Recently, though, according to The Orlando Sentinel, one of those water slides is now closed after breaking and injuring a passenger.
The accident happened on Thursday when an adult passenger on Icon of the Seas was injured after a water slide malfunctioned. An acrylic glass panel broke off the slide while the passenger was using it. The passenger, who is in stable condition, received medical attention and is currently being treated for injuries.

The slide in question is part of the ship’s Category 6 water park and is called the Frightening Bolt. The slide sends riders through a tube that has a transparent section near the top. Riders are dropped “through a bomb-bay door apparatus” into the slide, which is one of the tallest in the industry at 46 feet high.

“Our team provided medical care to an adult guest when acrylic glass broke off a water slide as the guest passed through the slide,” a Royal Caribbean Group spokesperson said. “The guest is being treated for his injuries. The water slide is closed for the remainder of the sailing pending an investigation.”
